POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Consultant will collaborate with clinical and administrative leadership working on high-value initiatives targeting improvements in healthcare quality. Quality improvement will incorporate initiatives in patient safety, patient centeredness, effectiveness, timeliness, efficiency and equity. Through demonstrated proficiency in quality improvement and business methodologies, education, innovation, and role modeling, the consultant partners with programs to :
- Plan and implement projects with cross-functional teams to achieve the organization’s strategic goals;
- Inform policy development and planning cycles through strategic recommendations;
- Improve performance of the Quality and Patient Safety priorities of the organization;
- Implement standards of care including those embedded in Accreditation Canada’s requirements; and
- Play a leadership role in creating capacity for quality improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Masters Degree in Business Administration, Health Services Management, Public Health, Health Sciences, Nursing or other related field.Regulated Health Professional in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, OT, PT, etc., preferred3-5 years of practical related experienceAdvanced proficiency in applying Quality Improvement tools requiredProven leadership abilities, including ability to lead teams through projects and change requiredSuperior communication, facilitation, presentation and writing skillsAbility to effectively collaborate with physicians, senior leadership and all members of the heathcare delivery teamDemonstrated ability to evaluate outcomes using statistical principlesExtensive knowledge of current literature in quality and patient safetyClinical training is considered an assetLEAN training and / or equivalent experience is considered an assetProject management training and / or equivalent experience is considered an assetRESPONSIBILITIES
Provides facilitation and leadership in supporting Quality Improvement Plans through the Excellent Care for All Act.Works with corporate teams developing project plans for quality improvement projects, evaluation, implementation and communication.Applies planning methodologies for targeted rapid cycle improvements (A3, PDSA cycles, etc.).Provides expertise in performance measurement, developing metrics to track progress and provides analytical support for interpretation of results using advanced statistical measurement where appropriate.Coaches and provides support / tools to clinical teams for ongoing sustainability / auditing.Chairs relevant working groups for corporate projects and initiatives.Serves as the primary corporate resource for expertise, facilitation, education and application of quality improvement tools, including but not limited to :
Process and Value Stream MappingFailure Mode and Effects AnalysisLEAN methodologies and toolsProblem identification and root cause analysisBrainstorming and focus group facilitationChange Management tools
Statistical Analysis including control chartsLeads Root Cause Analysis for reviewing safety issues, including critical incident reviews. Reviews will frequently require supplemental application of quality improvement tools, stakeholder interviews, chart reviews and multi-disciplinary group facilitation. Reviews will result in formal recommendations and implementation of quality improvement and risk mitigation strategies. The sensitive nature of these reviews requires diplomacy and discretion.Provides support as expert resource to quality teams in the evaluation of quality and patient safety metrics as well as the evaluation of improvement projects.Provides consultation / guidance regarding appropriate indicators, targets and data sources to measure performance and assists in the analysis of the data.Provides educational quality improvement training to clinical staff, medical residents and student groups.Educates new hospital staff during General Hospital Orientation.Participates in hiring processes for department, providing support to Quality Director / Manager.Leads or co-leads preparation for hospital accreditation and advocates for completion of and compliance to accreditation requirements.Supports the development of the corporate strategic plan through robust recommendations informed by internal and external reports.Acts as an ambassador in identifying and implementing initiatives to create, communicate and demonstrate a leadership-driven “just” culture of patient safety.Identifies opportunities to disseminate St. Joe’s work and innovative ideas, which may include :
