Compensation
Base Pay Range : CA$35.41 / hr – CA$41.09 / hr (actual pay based on skills and experience, determined during negotiation).
Program Overview
The Regional Dementia Care Program provides comprehensive specialized assessment and treatment of older adults (usually >
65 years old) and / or adults with an age‑related dementia, which is complicated by behavioural and psychological symptoms, and / or medical comorbidities that exceed the capacity of the community, general hospital, complex continuing care and long‑term care system.
Qualifications
- Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) – recent within the last twelve months
- Current Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate – training delivered by the Health Centre upon hire
- Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate
- Practical knowledge and understanding of dementia, including best practices for assessment and management of responsive behaviours
- Montessori Methods for Dementia and PIECES – an asset
- Experience working with older adults demonstrating responsive behaviours, including evidence of creative application of Personhood
- Knowledge of relevant acts and regulations (e.g., Substitute Decision Makers, Controlled Acts, PHIPA, College of Nurses of Ontario standards of practice, etc.)

Ability to work effectively with members of a multi‑disciplinary team, including participation in nursing programmingExcellent interpersonal and communication skills when dealing with clients, families, employees, and service providersUnderstanding of trauma‑informed care principles and ability to apply them within all relationships and interactionsComputer application experience required, with advanced level of skill in documentationAbility to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in care planningWillingness to work shifts in other programs as requiredCommitment to ensure safety of oneself, fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitorsSupport and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events within the organizationGood attendance and work record requiredAdvanced level bilingualism (English / French) – an assetWork Environment & Access
