Crawford Packaging is seeking a qualified Packaging Service Technician to join our operations in Mississauga, Ontario. Your responsibilities will include installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining packaging equipment, with a focus on Shrink Films (PE / PO), Food Contact Packaging, and Top Seal Automation & Films. This role also includes supporting internal teams, preparing equipment for shipment, and maintaining company assets. You will travel frequently to customer sites, with some travel across North America, to ensure equipment is functioning optimally. In an addition, there will be opportunities to work cross-functionally with Crawford's automation managers on new projects, including solutions sales opportunities.
Job Responsibilities and Duties include :
- The position will include working with materials such as wood, concrete and steel and requires a strong electrical background. These duties include :
- Installing and configuring shrink film machinery, top seal automation systems, and related food packaging equipment on‑site, ensuring systems are fully operational and meet performance standards.
- Diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining shrink film, top seal automation, and food contact packaging equipment to prevent breakdowns and minimize downtime.
- Performing troubleshooting, installations and repairs for automatic and semi‑automatic machines both in‑house and at customer facilities.
- Providing technical guidance to customers, including training them on the use, maintenance, and upkeep of machinery and offering remote and on‑site troubleshooting as needed to resolve customer issues.
- Ensuring all equipment repairs and maintenance activities comply with relevant food safety standards and regulations, such as those from the FDA, CFIA, SQF, and Health Canada, specific to food contact packaging.
- Communicating professionally and in a timely manner with customers and OEMs to address concerns regarding equipment performance and offer appropriate solutions.
- Maintaining accurate service logs, parts inventory, and repair documentation while completing and submitting work orders at the end of each week, along with other necessary documents such as mileage logs and credit card receipts.
- Providing detailed reports to internal teams and customers as needed.
- Working closely with the service department team to support the produce / packaging sales and administration teams as well as collaborating with sales and technical teams to recommend appropriate solutions and improvements for customer operations.
- Assisting with the preparation of equipment prior to shipment and delivery while maintaining company vehicles and tools as per policy to ensure that they are kept in good working condition.
- Modifying packaging equipment to comply with ESA standards, where required.
- Recommending and performing system upgrades or modifications to improve machine performance and ensure alignment with new technologies and standards in shrink films and food contact packaging.
- Participating in ongoing training related to equipment and responsibilities to stay current on technological advancements and service methods.
- Install and assemble mechanical equipment and assemble stationary industrial machinery
- Read Blue prints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements
- Estimate costs and materials
- Detect and troubleshoot irregularities and malfunctions
- Repair or replace defective machinery parts
- Program programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
- Regular hours 40 / week - overtime available as required
- Other duties as assigned
Job Skills Required :
Post‑secondary education as a Millwright, electrician journeyman, or relevant technical training an asset.2 years experience of strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, with a focus on industrial equipment.Forklift operator experienceHoisting and Rigging, and WHMIS trainedPrevious 2 years experience in the primary packaging industry is required.Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Siemens, Simatic controller, Allen Bradley and other software systems.Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to train customers and peers on equipment use across multiple shifts.Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced, customer‑focused environment.Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel throughout North America - travel to various locationsPrevious experience working with shrink packaging equipment and top‑seal applications is required although other experience in the packaging industry would be considered an asset.Experience with PLC programing and other Logic controls is required.English Language requirement : good written and verbal communication skillsAbility to lift up to 23 kgsCandidates must consent to a criminal background check as part of the hiring processJob Type : Full‑time
