Contract and Fulltime

Job Description :

We are seeking a Mainframe System Engineer (z / OS) whose responsibilities include supporting Mainframe components and software, installing, testing, maintenance and documentation on mainframe z / OS systems in a sysplex environment along with projects as required. In addition, support of the Control-D output management system.

Note from Hiring Manager :

Responsible for going out to our vendor sites and looking for updates, potential bugs and fixes that need to be addressed. They will also be responsible for keeping that software up to date. In doing this they work very heavily with our change process and customers to create the change tickets for awareness, planning and execution. They are responsible for upgrading and testing in the various system programmer, test and production environments. We are looking for people that have experience working with vendor software and can handle these tasks described above as well as trouble shoot any issues we or our customers may report.

On the infrastructure side it is vital that members of our team understand the mainframe hardware and the various components. Again like a desktop, PC or a server we have various components that are all connected to the mainframe box itself. Things like virtual tape, DASD storage and printers are examples of external hardware that connect to the mainframe. We also have network devices that have switches that provide connectivity to the network. User session emulators (TN3270) are how people connect to the mainframe. Once on, there are many options for the end user such as TSO, SDSF, ISPF panels. Each of these do different things or will take you to different areas on the mainframe

Requirements :

  • Experience with z / OS architecture mainframe systems in a sysplex environment is required for a candidate to be considered for this role.
  • 2-7 years of experience in a mainframe support role is required.
  • Experience with programming language REXX or SAS and bonus if you have experience with Assembler or COBOL.
  • Moderate knowledge of JCL, TSO / ISPF and SDSF concepts and functionality.

Experience with knowledge of BMC Control-D output management infrastructure and components is a plus.
