DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

As a member of the multidisciplinary interprofessional team within the Systemic Therapy Department / Brachytherapy OR, the RN will : provide care to address the physical, psychological, social, spiritual and educational needs of oncology patients and their families.

The RN will work collaboratively with other members of the team to ensure safe delivery of cancer treatments and procedures.

The Registered Nurse is accountable for the provision of care in accordance with the standards of practice as delineated by the College of Nurses of Ontario.

The Registered Nurse works as an autonomous practitioner and maintains competence and professionalism relevant to current practice.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing)
  • Current B.C.L.S
  • ACLS an asset;
  • Completion of a recognized Operating Room Nursing certificate required;
  • Recent post anesthetic care experience required; must have competence in I.V. therapy initiation, cardiac monitoring course and / or critical care certificate;
  • Membership in RNAO, OPANA / ORNAC and ONS / CANO is an asset;
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO
  • Willing to obtain the Canadian Oncology Certification within two years of being successful in

posting into this position

  • A recognized Oncology Certificate Course is recommended
  • Recent experience in Oncology Nursing (i.e., on an acute oncology floor, or ambulatory oncology clinic within the past 3 years) is an asset;
  • Recent experience with High Dose Radiation / Brachytherapy preferred;
  • Ability to work and perform in stressful and emotionally intense situations, caring for vulnerable

patients and their families

Strong interpersonal skills with ability to foster good therapeutic relationships in a person

centred care environment

  • Knowledge and experience in wound care an asset
  • Experience and competency with CVAD (PICC / PORT / CVC) care, including

accessing, deaccessing, flushing, blood draws and dressing changes is an asset

  • Experience in providing patients and families with health teaching
  • Excellent and professional communication skills both written and verbal
  • Effective time management, critical thinking and mentoring skills;
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound judgement, excellent observation and patient assessment skills;
  • Familiar and comfortable with electronic documentation;
  • Physically capable of lifting, turning and transferring patients manually and with mechanical aids;
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively as situations warrant;
  • Demonstrated ability to assume a leadership role through collaboration and participation in

process improvement initiatives.

  • Radiation oncology experience an asset
  • B.Sc.N is preferred
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety

programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety and environmental safety and

participation in regular in-service in this area

Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Nurses Association (RN Bargaining Unit Local 051).

Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
