Position Title : Computer Technician
Reports to : Senior Systems Administrator
Job Overview
Reporting to the Senior Systems Administrator, the Computer Technician is responsible for providing technical support, maintenance of IT equipment, and troubleshooting services for the Haisla Nation Council’s computer systems and networks. The Computer Technician ensures that computer systems and related hardware, software and networks operate efficiently and effectively.

Duties & Responsibilities
Technical Support :
- Communicate electronically (and in-person) with Haisla Nation users experiencing technical difficulties by troubleshooting and documenting problems.
- Provide technical support to Haisla Nation employees regarding computer hardware, software, and network-related issues.
- Maintain record of work performed in ticketing system and escalate issues as needed to other IT Team members or external vendors.
Hardware :
Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware and software systems, including operating systems and application software.Reproduce, diagnose, and resolve hardware and software problems reported by end-users, including troubleshooting issues with printers, scanners, and other peripheral devices.Document user needs and create purchase orders for technical components.Assist in the procurement and inventory management of computer hardware and software.Network Administration :
Set up and maintain computer networks within the Haisla Nation Council, including connecting devices to the Internet and ensuring proper network connectivity.Proactively identify and troubleshoot network issues such as slow or unstable connections to optimize network connectivity and performance.Follow and contribute to the development of policies and standards around user access, security and acceptable use of the HNC network.Systems Administration :
Perform routine maintenance and updates, including operating system and software installations, patches, and security updates.Provide support for issues related to mobile device operating systems, software applications, and security configurations.Set up and maintain Internet and Intranet web sites and web server hardware and software.Provide user support for electronic (e-mail) systems and web content management systems.Other related duties as requested by the Director, Information Technology.
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.Industry certification such as CompTIA A+ or equivalent experience.3 to 5 years of recent related experience.Experience working for a band government or Indigenous organization.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.In-depth knowledge of IT security best practices and data protection principles.Strong organizational and time management skills with an attention to detail.Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to professionally connect with and influence a diverse group of individuals.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.Ability to meet intensive and changing deadlines.Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.Valid BC driver’s license and own vehicle is an asset.Satisfactory completion of criminal records check (with vulnerable sector screening if relevant).Why Join Us?
