The Opportunity

We are currently looking for self-directed, engaging, energetic Full-Time CYAC Advocate and Trauma Support Services Coordinator to join our growing team. The Centre Coordinator / Advocate provides planning, coordination, evaluation and administration. Provides trauma-informed and culturally safe care to children and youth who have experienced abuse as well as their family members and supporters

POSITION : CYAC Advocate and Trauma Support Services Coordinator

HOURS OF WORK : Permanent, Full- time

37.5 Hours per week; flexible work schedule required

SALARY RANGE : CSSEA Wage Grid 14 : $34.90 - $38.77 Hourly (depending on education and experience)

BENEFITS : Extended health, dental, vision care, Group TFSA / RRSP

VACATION : As per ESS policies

Some Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Participant Service

a. Orients children, youth and families to the Centre, the model and the multi-disciplinary team.

b. Provides individual support to participants, providing advocacy, accompaniment and referrals to community services as required.

c. Oversees case management plans for participants involved in the Case Management Team and case review process.

d. Develops written safety plans and critical incident reports, as needed, with the participants to manage safety and reduce the risk of further victimization by assessing, identifying, and addressing the participants immediate and emergency physical and emotional safety needs.

2. Program Administration

a. Assists the Senior Clinical Manager with the planning and development of the program. Ensures that work is being implemented according to program guidelines, standards and policies, and that funder expectations are being met.

b. Maintains responsibility for scheduling and oversight of Child and Youth Advocacy Centre staff, volunteers, contractors, and students.

c. Oversees the day-to-day operation of the Langley Child and Youth Advocacy Centre.

d. Organizes staff meetings and workshops for the team and partners, liaising with facilitators, coordinating registration and evaluation. Produces meetings notes and tracks action items.

e. Maintains responsibility for scheduling and oversight of Child and Youth Advocacy Centre staff, volunteers, contractors, and students.

3. Leadership

a. Supervises program staff by performing duties such as assigning work, providing feedback on performance, and conducting performance evaluations.

b. Responsible for coordinating case reviews with multi-disciplinary team members, including related documentation. Leads the team to formulate an action plan and tracks the implementation of that plan, working through conflict resolution as needed.

c. Participates in the recruitment and onboarding of program staff, volunteers and practicum students, and provides on-going support and supervision.

4. Other

a. Asset : Coordinator / Advocate is willing to take on full caretaking responsibility for the Encompass Support Services Society Accredited Facility Dog, including but not limited to having the dog reside in their home, feeding, walking, grooming, veterinary care, training, handling, and scheduling for Langley CYAC support services and court support services. Related expenses will be covered by the organization. A secondary handler may be identified for back-up support. Encompass and / or the Accreditation organization maintain final decision making on the care and placement of the facility dog up until the dog is formally adopted at the end of their working career.

Qualifications :

1. Education and Training

Bachelors degree in human / social services or related field.

2. Knowledge and Experience

Three (3) years direct service delivery experience in the community social services sector, including one (1) year supervisory or administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Experience working with children and youth, preferably specific to work in the anti-violence sector.

Experience working with vulnerable children, youth and families.

Experience with Mental Health Training, Sexual Abuse and Trauma Training, Depression / Suicide / Co -occurring Disorder Training.

Experience with multi-disciplinary teams an asset.

Experience with developing policies and procedures, designing and delivering programs a significant asset.

Asset : Should the Coordinator / Advocate take on Handler responsibilities for the Facility Dog :

i. Attend Facility Dog training centre for handler training as required. Take part in re-certification training and testing as required.

ii. Adhere to proper handling of the facility dog, particularly during interactions with children, youth and families, as well as staff / partners.

iii. Receive training on and oversee implementation of proper procedures, commands and courtroom decorum for facility dogs.

3. Skills and Abilities

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Effective problem-solving, conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.

Ability to provide caring, empathetic support and guidance.

Ability to be flexible, resourceful and possesses good time management and organization skills.

Demonstrated knowledge and application of trauma-informed and culturally safe principles, and demonstrated commitment to furthering these practices.

Knowledge of systemic issues and risk factors facing underrepresented groups including 2SLGBTQIA+, Indigenous, racialized, and neurodiverse peoples.

4. Other Information

This position requires the ability to function independently, frequently under pressure, while managing multiple projects and deadlines.

This position requires the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with community partners while eliciting the best possible service for Centre participants. Incumbent must be able to negotiate these relationships in times of disagreement of what services should be offered a participant.

Program delivery activities may require a moderate level of physical fitness to effectively carry out duties of the position.

This position may require working outside of regular office hours, such as evenings and weekends, depending on the needs of the program.

Must possess a valid BC Class 5 Drivers license, have a reliable vehicle, Business Insurance and acceptable drivers abstract. (mileage paid for work use)

Police Information check including vulnerable sector check.

Current Emergency First Aid.
