Position Summary
The Financial Analyst is responsible for financial analysis, reporting, and forecasting to support organizational planning and performance management. The role provides timely, accurate insights to support strategic and operational decisions.
Key Role Responsibilities
- Prepare complete working schedules and financial statements for multiple corporate entities, including monthly, quarterly, and year‑end working files.
- Coordinate annual year‑end audit file preparation and support external auditors during financial and regulatory audits.
- Ensure adherence to accounting standards (IFRS, internal accounting policies, and internal control requirements).
- Analyze monthly financial performance, discuss results with management, and provide insights, recommendations, and solutions to address negative trends or variances.
- Assist in the preparation and analysis of budgets; monitor and report on performance against budget, identifying causes of variances.
- Prepare ad‑hoc financial reporting, analysis, research, and decision‑support information for management.
- Develop financial models to support forecasting, scenario planning, cost analysis, and business case evaluations.
- Monitor key financial and operational KPIs and assist with preparing monthly dashboards or performance reports.
- Conduct job cost and margin analysis to identify operational inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in or lead process automation and system improvement initiatives, including ERP enhancements or module implementations.
- Identify risks related to financial processes and support the implementation of corrective actions.
- Work closely with Accounts Receivable on monthly AR schedules, collection issues, and AFDA proposals.
- Collaborate with Operations, Purchasing, Sales, and Business Unit Managers to ensure financial accuracy, job cost control, and appropriate financial reporting for business activities.
- Support financial reviews of contracts, project spending, and operational initiatives to ensure proper accounting treatment and cost visibility.
- Provide financial insight and support for cross‑functional projects and business decisions.
- Assist with cash flow forecasting and analysis, monitoring liquidity needs across entities.
- Assist with banking administration, compliance, and relationship management as required.
- Support onboarding, training, and cross‑training within the accounting and finance team.
- Support M&A activities, including financial due diligence and post‑acquisition accounting setup.
- Participate in system migrations, process redesign initiatives, or analytics tool implementations.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support company objectives.
Skills & Qualifications
CPA designation or enrollment in the CPA program is an asset.Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role with responsibility for full‑cycle accounting and financial analysis.Comprehensive knowledge and hands‑on experience with the full accounting cycle.Strong understanding of IFRS, financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, and financial reporting.Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, prepare meaningful reports, and present information to management.Proficiency with accounting software (Jonas an asset) and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.Thorough knowledge of relevant federal, provincial, and local financial reporting requirements and record retention regulations.High level of critical thinking, logic, and analytical reasoning for problem identification and resolution.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Strong desire to achieve results and resolve issues promptly and effectively.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.Key Competencies
