This posting is open to WRDSB employees who are members of the EA Association as well as external applicants.

Staff already in an LTO are not eligible to apply to this posting if it will conflict with their current LTO.

All Long Term Occasional assignments are subject to a revised end date with 2-weeks notice.

Qualifications / Requirements :

A condition of employment as an EA / CYW with the Waterloo Region District School Board requires that one must pass a Physical Demands test. All job offers will be conditional on the candidate passing all components of this test. This applies to any EA / CYW that does not already have Permanent / LTO level D hours.

Educational Assistant Qualifications :

  • Certified Teachers
  • Educational Assistant Diploma or Educational Support Diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Developmental Service Worker (DSW) from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Social Services Diploma (SSW) from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Alternative EA Qualifications with Experience
  • Post-secondary degree in Sociology from an accredited post-secondary institution AND a MINIMUM of one (1) year (1,224) hours of related work experience preferably directly supporting special needs children. In lieu of relevant related work experience, the Board may consider significant relevant volunteer experience
  • Minimum six (6) month diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution in a child-related discipline AND a MINIMUM of one (1) year (1,224) hours of related work experience preferably directly supporting special needs children. In lieu of relevant related work experience, the Board may consider significant relevant volunteer experience.
  • Minimum six (6) month certificate from an accredited educational institution in a child-related discipline AND a MINIMUM of one (1) year (1,224) hours of related work experience preferably directly supporting special needs children. This could include but is not limited to programs such as the St. Louis Adult Learning certificate program. In lieu of relevant related work experience, the Board may consider significant relevant volunteer experience.
  • Post-secondary degree / diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution that is complementary to supporting special needs children as solely determined by the Board AND a MINIMUM of one (1) year (1,224) hours of related work experience preferably directly supporting special needs children. In lieu of relevant related work experience, the Board may consider significant relevant volunteer experience.

Assets :

  • A valid Behaviour Management Systems certification
  • Proven ability and recent experience in working with students with special needs and behavioural disabilities is strongly preferred and school-based experience

    Interview s tream Features :

  • You may complete your interview on a PC, Mac or the mobile apps for iOS and Android devices.
  • Read and listen to the question as part of a one minute preparation window
  • Video recordings will begin automatically after one minute or you can choose to begin sooner by clicking record.
  • Responses can be up to five minutes in length for each question
  • Monitor your response time using the built-in on-screen timer (turns black when there are 10 seconds remaining to respond and red when there are five seconds remaining).
  • The recording will stop automatically once five minutes has been reached.

  • Only those applicants selected for an interview will be contacted. Human Resources staff will only respond to inquiries from applicants selected for an interview. No phone calls, please.

    Under the for staff screening and police record checks;

    Employees [DECEs, EAs, CYWs] working in licensed child care programs are required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check issued by a Police Service on or before every fifth anniversary after the date of the most recent vulnerable sector check. In addition, employees are required to complete an annual offence declaration (annually recorded through the WRDSB staff portal). Educators working in Before and After School Programs are required to complete a request for VSC through your local police service [available online] and submit your original electronic copy to for review.

    Employees are required to have a valid first aid and cpr certificate and or be registered to update their training within the year.
