Hammond Power Solutions Inc. is a global manufacturer headquartered in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. HPS is a leader in North America in the custom design and manufacture of dry type transformers, serving markets including mining, rectifier, drives, traction, wind, solar and other electrical power applications. We currently have an opening for a Simulation Platform Developer Co-op , to grow with us. The Spring / Summer 2026 co‑op term starts in May 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop a simulation and modeling software platform for company products.
- Integrate analytical models and test data into the platform for verification and validation.
- Develop user-friendly interfaces, scripts, or automation tools to improve usability and efficiency.
- Document software architecture, modeling assumptions, and usage guidelines.
- Collaborate with test and design engineers to continuously improve platform capability and accuracy.
Programming Languages
Python or equivalent (preferred for platform development, scripting, automation)MATLAB / Simulink (modeling, algorithm development, validation) – asset, not requiredC / C++ or similar – asset, not requiredQualifications
Currently enrolled as a student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer ScienceStrong interest in engineering software developmentAbility to translate power-system and power-electronics problems into computational modelsUnderstanding of engineering mathematics (linear systems, differential equations, numerical methods – academic level)Ability to translate engineering requirements into software logicStructured problem-solving and debugging skillsAbility to write clear, maintainable, and well-documented codeAssets (would be considered an advantage)
Academic-level understanding of power system harmonics and non-linear loadsAbility to convert harmonic distortion issues (THD, interharmonics, resonance, filtering) into software models and simulation algorithmsImplementation of frequency-domain and time-domain harmonic analysisModeling of passive and active harmonic mitigation techniquesValidation of harmonic simulation results against analytical calculations or test dataBenefits
