Position Overview
The Nursing Attendant (Operating Room) works as a member of the surgical team, contributing to effective patient‑ and family‑centred care experiences. The attendant assists with unit‑specific interventions and collaborates with the surgical team to deliver safe, effective patient care with minimized risk.
Responsibilities
- Assists with patient transport from bed to stretcher or wheelchair.
- Applies corrective safety measures for positioning patients in the OR.
- Supports surgical team members with unit‑specific tasks to maintain a safe environment.
- Maintains a positive interpersonal and communication tone with patients, families, and staff.
- Works independently with minimal supervision and contributes as a team member.
- Prioritises workload and manages time effectively.
- Maintains a reliable record of attendance and work performance.
Qualifications
Grade 12 or equivalent.BLS certification obtained and renewed annually.PSW certification from an accredited college (obtained within the last year).Minimum two years of experience as a Nursing Attendant in an Operating Room environment.Demonstrated proficiency in handling and transferring patients.Fluency in English (verbal and written).Ability to stand by for nights and weekends.Commitment to the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario and MGH safety policies.Strong initiative, discretion, tact, and diplomacy.
