Our client is sourcing a Controller for a 6-month contract.
About the Opportunity
Direct and execute the full monthly close cycle, including journal entries, supporting documentation, and quality review of team outputs
Establish and uphold effective internal control frameworks to safeguard financial accuracy and regulatory compliance
Oversee balance sheet integrity by managing account reconciliations and resolving variances in a timely manner
Administer and maintain the organization’s capital asset records and depreciation schedules
Produce periodic financial reports (monthly, quarterly, and annual), including statements, cash flow analysis, and investment-related entries, aligned with budgeting and liquidity objectives
Deliver insightful financial analysis and reporting to support leadership decision-making
Coordinate external audit engagements, including audit readiness, documentation preparation, and response to auditor requests
Complete statutory and government reporting requirements (e.g., indirect tax filings) and manage accounting activities for affiliated charitable entities
Evaluate existing accounting policies, systems, and workflows, recommending and implementing enhancements where appropriate
Partner with finance colleagues and internal stakeholders to strengthen governance, reporting consistency, and operational effectiveness
About You
Professional accounting designation (CPA) with formal education in accounting or finance
Approximately 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on technical work and guidance or supervision of junior staff
Strong working knowledge of Canadian accounting standards for private enterprises; experience in the not-for-profit sector is an asset
Advanced Excel skills and strong proficiency with Microsoft 365; experience working with financial systems required
Exposure to reporting automation or analytics tools (e.g., VBA, Power BI, CRM platforms) considered beneficial
Collaborative communicator who builds strong relationships across departments
Highly organized, analytical professional with a strong focus on accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement
