Knowledge Mobilization Specialist

About OSCIA

The Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) is a unique not-for-profit farm organization whose diverse membership has a significant presence in all agricultural areas of the province and across all major sectors. The mission of OSCIA is to facilitate responsible economic management of soil, water, air and crops through development and communication of innovative farming practices. OSCIA is a leader in agricultural program delivery, including cost-share funding distribution, educational workshop offerings for farmers, and administration of on-farm applied research and knowledge transfer opportunities.

Job Summary

The Knowledge Mobilization Specialist is responsible for turning research, technical information, and program insights into clear, practical resources that support farmers, industry partners, and other stakeholders. This role designs and delivers knowledge mobilization strategies, develops learning materials and tools, and supports outreach and engagement activities to ensure information is accessible, relevant, and impactful. Working closely with researchers, producers, and internal teams, the Specialist helps strengthen OSCIAs leadership in agricultural innovation, education, and sustainable farming.

Core Knowledge Mobilization Responsibilities

  • Translate research findings and technical information into clear, practical, and accessible formats for target audiences.
  • Design and implement knowledge mobilization strategies that support program, research, and organizational goals.
  • Ensure research outputs are usable, relevant, and timely for end users.

Research & Content Development

  • Synthesize data, research results, and industry knowledge into tools, summaries, guides, presentations, and other applied resources.
  • Support the development of knowledge products such as fact sheets, reports, case studies, webinars, and training materials.
  • Maintain consistency and quality across knowledge transfer materials.
  • Stakeholder & Partnership Engagement

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with researchers, practitioners, producers, and sector organizations.
  • Facilitate two-way knowledge exchange between researchers and end users.
  • Support partnership development to extend reach and impact of knowledge mobilization activities.
  • Program & Initiative Support

  • Support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of knowledge translation and transfer initiatives (e.g., workshops, demonstrations, field days, learning events).
  • Coordinate knowledge-sharing activities arising from programs, projects, or funding initiatives.
  • Work closely with internal teams to integrate knowledge mobilization into program design.
  • Communication & Outreach

  • Communicate complex information effectively to diverse audiences using appropriate channels and formats.
  • Support promotion and dissemination of knowledge products and learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with communications teams to align messaging and outreach efforts.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Develop and implement tools to measure the reach, effectiveness, and impact of knowledge mobilization activities.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on performance metrics and outcomes.
  • Prepare reports to meet organizational, funder, or contractual requirements.
  • Facilitation & Coordination

  • Facilitate meetings, workshops, and discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate input from multiple contributors to ensure knowledge products are accurate and relevant.
  • Support agreement development related to knowledge mobilization roles and deliverables.
  • Continuous Improvement

  • Stay informed of best practices and emerging approaches in knowledge mobilization and adult learning.
  • Use feedback and evaluation results to refine strategies and improve knowledge products.
  • Identify gaps in knowledge transfer and recommend solutions.
  • Qualifications and Skills

  • Post-secondary education in agriculture, environmental sciences, communications, extension, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a related field
  • Experience in knowledge mobilization, extension, research communication, or program delivery within the agriculture or agri-food sector.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information into practical, producer-focused resources.
  • Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Ontario agriculture and on-farm research is considered an asset.

  • Working Conditions / Physical Demands :

  • Hybrid work model combining remote and in-office work, with the position based in Guelph, ON.
  • Home office settings require a dependable, high-speed internet connection to ensure effective participation in virtual meetings and online collaboration.
  • May require occasional work outside of standard business hours (e.g., early mornings, evenings, or weekends) to attend meetings, events, or respond to organizational needs.
  • Requires regular use of a computer; prolonged sitting, typing, and screen time required.
  • May involve occasional lifting of light materials (e.g., files, laptop up to 20 lbs).
  • Must be adaptable to a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid drivers licence and have access to reliable transportation for occasional travel to meetings, stakeholder events, and organizational sites.
  • Must maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive or organizational information.
