Asset Manager – Fleet Operations & Maintenance
Overview
We are supporting a specialist trucking and transport services business in the appointment of an Asset Manager to take ownership of fleet performance, maintenance strategy, and lifecycle management across a heavy vehicle operation.
This role sits at the intersection of fleet operations and engineering, with accountability for asset availability, reliability, compliance, and cost control across a large commercial vehicle fleet.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Operations & Asset Performance
- Full ownership of fleet asset performance, availability, and utilisation across the operation
- Work closely with Operations and Transport teams to ensure vehicles are fit-for-purpose and aligned to operational demand
- Monitor KPIs around uptime, breakdowns, roadside events, and vehicle utilisation
- Support fleet planning, replacement programmes, and capacity growth initiatives
Maintenance & Reliability
Lead fleet maintenance strategy across preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenanceOversee workshop performance (in-house and third-party), including planning, scheduling, and quality controlReduce unplanned downtime through reliability improvements and root cause analysisDrive continuous improvement in maintenance practices, cost efficiency, and asset lifeCompliance & Safety
Ensure fleet compliance with all relevant transport, safety, and regulatory requirementsMaintain standards around inspections, servicing, defect management, and documentationPartner with HSE and Compliance teams to support audits and regulatory inspectionsAsset Lifecycle & Cost Control
Manage asset lifecycle from acquisition through to disposalInput into capital planning, fleet renewal, and specification decisionsTrack and control maintenance spend, total cost of ownership, and asset ROIUse data and fleet systems to support decision-making and performance reportingStakeholder & Team Collaboration
Act as the key interface between Fleet, Maintenance, Operations, and external service providersSupport and develop maintenance and fleet teams through clear standards and expectationsProvide clear reporting and insight to senior leadership on fleet performance and riskExperience & Background
Proven experience in fleet, asset, or maintenance management within a trucking, haulage, or transport environmentStrong understanding of heavy vehicle maintenance, workshops, and fleet operationsExperience managing large commercial vehicle fleets (HGV / heavy trucks)Track record of improving fleet reliability, availability, and maintenance performanceComfortable working in a hands-on, operationally focused environmentSkills & Attributes
Strong operational mindset with an engineering / maintenance biasData-driven, with the ability to analyse fleet performance and costsPractical problem-solver with experience reducing downtime and failuresConfident communicator across operations, maintenance, and leadership teamsAble to balance short-term operational demands with long-term asset strategy
