Accounting Manager - Schlegel Urban Developments
Schlegel Urban Developments Corp. is a mid‑sized Kitchener‑based real estate development and management company known for its master‑planned residential subdivision projects and unique commercial developments, including the mixed‑use Williamsburg Town Centre, Wallaceton Marketplace, Bauer Marketplace in Waterloo, and the St. Jacobs Market District – home to Canada’s largest year‑round indoor / outdoor farmers’ market and the new Stockyards brewery and restaurant.
A family‑owned business, Schlegel Urban Developments is a hands‑on organization with a committed and talented team. We are looking for an individual who can combine a passion for accounting with an interest in real estate, development and property management to join our growing accounting team.
Responsibilities
- Develop, review and update policies and procedures for the accounting cycle
- Manage tenant files and ensure lease details are accurately accounted for in accordance with accounting standards
- Manage annual operating cost reconciliation process with tenants
- Review tenant ledgers to ensure charges, recoveries and deposits are accurately posted
- Record routine transactions (mortgage payments, recurring journal entries, amortization, etc.)
- Support the Controller with month‑end and year‑end closing procedures, including balance sheet reconciliations
- Support the Controller with construction financing draws for future construction and land development projects
- Support the Controller with monthly filings and payments for EHT, HST, WSIB, corporate tax instalments
- Review general ledger monthly for accuracy and variance from budget and investigate variances for reasonableness
- Support the Controller with the annual budgeting process
- Prepare various accounting reports and analysis as required
- Support VP Leasing & Commercial Real Estate and property management staff in financial accounting matters
- Support reporting to external parties (banks, MPAC, CRA, etc.)
- Provide guidance and leadership to accounts receivable / accounts payable staff
Experience and Qualifications
5+ years of experience in an accounting management roleCPA designation considered an assetProficiency in Microsoft ExcelExperience with Yardi products an asset (on‑site training available)Property management experience an assetIndependent self‑starter who enjoys a hands‑on small team environmentExcellent attention to detail and ability to achieve accuracy while meeting deadlinesExcellent communication, customer service, tact, diplomacy and judgment to solve problems independently and collaborativelySalary
$80,000 – $90,000, adjusted for experience.
