This position is part of the Connect 6ix project. Toronto's new Ontario Line subway is now under construction. The Connect 6ix consortium has a key role in this project, delivering the trains, the signaling system, and the operations, storage, and maintenance facility. Connect 6ix will also operate the Ontario Line for a 30-year term once it comes into service.
Role overview
The Traffic Control Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and OH&S regulations, developing and implementing Traffic Control Plans (TCPs) in the field, and directing all traffic control operations on-site. They coordinate with contractors, maintain authority over traffic control personnel, and liaise with municipalities and transit providers. Monitoring queue lengths and transit travel times, responding to traffic-related incidents, and documenting measures are key tasks. Additionally, they oversee project requirements for safe and orderly traffic movement and attend regular traffic management meetings.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial and local laws, while adhering to OH&S rules and regulations.
- To develop and implement the TCP’s in the field.
- Directing all traffic control operations on the Site and coordinating with other contractors working on the Project.
- Maintaining direct line authority over all of the Project’s Co’s traffic control personnel and procedures on the Site.
- Liaising with the Municipalities and their transit providers, the Contracting Authority and MTO as required.
- Monitoring queue lengths in active Site and implementing appropriate measures when such queues affect the operation and safety of existing transit services, existing Municipal roads and other provincial and Municipal roadways.
- Monitoring of transit travel times and raising operational performance issues to the traffic Manager and Transportation Management Committee.
- Responding to traffic-related incidents resulting from construction activities and traffic management activities. All major incidents shall be documented withing 48 hours of incident and provided to the Contracting Authority and the Municipalities.
- Documenting traffic control measures and activities in accordance with the part 7 of the Project Agreement Schedule.
- Overseeing all requirements of the Project agreement that contribute to the safety, convenience, and orderly movement of vehicular, cycling, and pedestrian traffic.
- Attending regularly scheduled traffic management meetings.
