Job Summary

The Government of Alberta is seeking a Senior Data Engineer – Talend to support its Data Management Platform Integration Services initiative.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, deploying, monitoring, troubleshooting, and enhancing enterprise data integration solutions using Talend. The role requires strong hands-on experience with Talend Studio, Talend Management Console/Administration Center, Talend Remote Engines, ETL/ELT development, SQL Server, APIs, production support, and enterprise SDLC processes.

The resource will work closely with data engineers, solution architects, application teams, infrastructure teams, business stakeholders, and vendors to deliver secure, scalable, reliable, and maintainable data integration solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy Talend integration jobs, services, APIs, and reusable components.
  
• Develop ETL/ELT solutions for integrating data across databases, files, APIs, cloud platforms, and enterprise applications.
  
• Translate business and data requirements into technical designs, data mappings, transformation logic, and reconciliation processes.
  
• Build scalable batch and near-real-time data integration solutions.
  
• Develop reusable, parameterized, and environment-aware Talend integrations.
  
• Administer and support Talend Management Console (TMC) / Talend Administration Center (TAC).
  
• Deploy, schedule, orchestrate, monitor, and troubleshoot Talend jobs and services.
  
• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Talend Remote Engines, Job Servers, and runtime environments.
  
• Monitor integration jobs, platform health, execution status, throughput, failures, and performance.
  
• Investigate and resolve production incidents, integration failures, data-load issues, and performance problems.
  
• Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  
• Implement logging, monitoring, alerting, and automated recovery processes.
  
• Support production releases, upgrades, patching, configuration changes, and environment maintenance.
  
• Participate in solution design, technical estimation, release planning, testing, and deployment activities.
  
• Work within established SDLC, source control, code review, CI/CD, testing, release management, and change management processes.
  
• Collaborate with infrastructure teams, vendors, business stakeholders, and application teams to resolve integration and platform issues.
  
• Use AI and automation tools to improve data engineering workflows, code development, testing, monitoring, documentation, and productivity.
  
• Perform other related duties as required.
  

Requirements

Mandatory Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in Computer Science or a related field.
  
• 3+ years of experience designing, developing, testing, and supporting enterprise integration solutions using Talend Studio.
  
• 5+ years of experience administering and supporting Talend Management Console (TMC) or Talend Administration Center (TAC).
  
• 3+ years of experience installing, configuring, supporting, and troubleshooting Talend Remote Engines, Job Servers, and runtime infrastructure.
  
• 2+ years of experience providing production support for enterprise integration solutions.
  
• 4+ years of experience working within a mature Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  
• 1+ year of experience using AI for code generation, data analysis, automation, and data engineering workflows.
  

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience performing business requirements analysis related to data manipulation, transformation, cleansing, and wrangling.
  
• 6+ years of strong technical experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, optimization, and administration.
  
• 2+ years of experience building scalable ETL pipelines, enforcing data quality, and implementing cloud integrations using Talend.
  
• 3+ years of experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs.
  
• 3+ years of experience with message queueing technologies, such as ActiveMQ and Azure Service Bus.
  
• 1+ year of experience working with ServiceNow/Azure-based Data Management Platform integrations.
  

Work Arrangement

• Primarily remote within Canada.
  
• Candidate must be available for occasional onsite meetings in Edmonton, Alberta.
  
• Onsite meetings may occur approximately 3–4 times or more per fiscal month, depending on project requirements.
  
• Standard working hours are 8:15 AM–4:30 PM Alberta time, Monday to Friday.
  
• Candidate is responsible for providing their own computer and home-office equipment.
  
• Windows is strongly preferred for compatibility with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and remote-access tools.
