Are you ready to make a tangible impact on public services through modern data engineering? Our Edmonton client is seeking a skilled Data Engineer for an initial 12-month contract with possibility for extensions. In this role, you will collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to design, build, and optimize enterprise data pipelines, lakehouses, and analytics platforms that power efficient services for citizens.

Note: although this position is remote, the candidate is required to be situated within Alberta while performing work. Only candidates identified within Alberta will be contacted if short-listed.

Responsibilities
• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines across on-premises and cloud platforms to ingest, transform, and store enterprise datasets.
• Develop and maintain dimensional data models including star and snowflake schemas to optimize query performance and usability.
• Integrate data from relational databases, NoSQL platforms, APIs, and flat files while applying automated data quality validation.
• Develop and operate ETL and ELT workflows using Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Dataflows, and Notebooks with complete error handling and monitoring.
• Automate data pipeline deployments using modern CI/CD practices, automated testing, and release management.
• Build interactive Power BI dashboards using DAX to track key performance indicators and report critical metrics.
• Analyze datasets using Python, R, and statistical methods to extract actionable insights and construct predictive data models.

Qualifications
• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field.
• Minimum five years of professional experience as a Data Engineer or Data Analyst.
• Minimum five years of hands-on experience using Python, PySpark, and SQL to build and optimize enterprise ETL and ELT workflows.
• Minimum four years of experience designing enterprise data warehouses or lakehouses using star and snowflake schemas alongside BI executive reporting.
• Demonstrated experience with cloud or hybrid data platforms, data migration techniques, and modern tools such as Databricks or Microsoft Fabric.
