Successful applicants meeting the employer's qualification standard will be placed on an eligibility list in order of assessment score. The eligibility list will be used to fill temporary and permanent Program Coordinator vacancies in aquatic and recreation positions for 12 months from the closing date of this competition.
JOB SUMMARY
The Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department is responsible for building a healthy, inclusive and vibrant City, as well as ensuring that communities, residents and visitors have access to the recreation and cultural places, programs, events and services that allow them to experience all the benefits the City has to offer, and overseeing Buildings and Facilities Management for improved service delivery integration, ensuring the best possible client experience in City facilities. You are responsible for coordinating and supervising the delivery of specified recreation programs and services offered through City of Ottawa Area Recreation Facilities.
The Program Coordinator – Recreation is responsible for the planning and delivery of a wide variety of recreation programs and services and may be based out of a community centre, City wide program or a Recreation Complex. Please note that candidates for this opportunity, are not required to hold the Aquatic Certifications or Licenses outlined below.
The Program Coordinator – Aquatics is responsible for the planning and delivery of a wide variety of aquatics programs and services and may be based out of a standalone aquatic facility or Recreation Complex. Please note that candidates for Program Coordinator Aquatics are required to hold the Aquatic Certifications and Licenses outlined below.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 2-year community college diploma in Recreation or related field
Minimum of 3-years of full-time supervisory experience working in a recreation environment
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
Current Standard First Aid, CPR and / or AED certificatesCurrent National Lifeguard Pool certificate for specific positionsCurrent Lifesaving Swim Instructor certificate for specific positionsCurrent Oxygen Therapy or LSS Airway Management certificate for specific positionsCurrent advanced Instructor / Trainer status is preferred in at least one Aquatic specialty area (Red Cross or NLS Instructor, First Aid and CPR Instructor, Examiner, Instructor / Trainer certificate) for specific positionsAquatic Supervisor Training preferred for specific positionsFitness Instructor certificate (e.g., canfitpro, YM-YWCA, Ontario Fitness Council or other recognized certification) for specific positionsSpecialty certification in a relevant recreation / sports program is an assetCurrent National Coaching Certification Level 1 Figure Skating and / or NCCP Introduction to Competition Part A or Level 1 Theory for specific positions
KNOWLEDGE
- Working knowledge of computers and associated software
- Understanding union contracts and processes
- Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance
- Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures.
- For Aquatics positions, 3 years experience must be in a “Class A” Aquatic Facility
- For Fitness positions, teaching experience must include 300 hours in group fitness programs and 100 hours personal training and / or specialty group instruction
- Certifications and Licences listed above apply to specific positions in Aquatics, Fitness or Skating School
