ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Director, Public Works, this position is accountable for the delivery of administrative support, data entry and control, responding to non-technical and technical enquiries, and providing clerical / stenographic services to the Public Works department.The Administrative Assistant provides efficient administrative support by dealing with routine enquiries related to the Department of Public Works, directing persons or organizations to appropriate departmental staff, recording and relating to the appropriate officials any information or enquiries received on matters beyond the responsibility of this position, and composing routine letters / memos for the signature of the incumbent or others, as directed. Maintains a high level of personal competence by having a good level of knowledge and understanding of procedures relative to the position and matters relative to the function of the Public Works department. This position will periodically provide efficient receptionist, switchboard, and clerical support to the Town by personally receiving visitors and directing them to the appropriate officials, receiving and directing all telephone calls and / or taking messages and other duties as required.QualificationsSuccessful completion of an Office / Business Administration program or equivalent training program from a recognized post-secondary institution;Three (3) years' experience in an office environment with responsibility for similar duties; Detailed knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other office applications;Experience in a municipal office setting will be an asset;Demonstrated ability to deal with the public with tact and diplomacy;Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.This is a unionized position working 35 hours per week. The salary for this position is based on an annual salary of $56,604.68 as per the Collective Agreement.
