JOB SUMMARY
The Community Wellness and Chronic Disease Prevention Branch at Ottawa Public Health is responsible for developing policies and interventions to help individuals achieve optimal health. They collaborate with organizations to create supportive social and physical environments and build community capacity in mental health, substance use, chronic disease and injury prevention, and vaccine-preventable diseases.
Supervised by a Public Health Dietitian and / or Public Health Nutritionist, the Public Health Nutrition Student will support groups, families, and the community in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating nutrition-related interventions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Post-secondary Student - completion of third year (or beyond) college or university in Baccalaureate degree in Nutrition (essential)
Two years or more of related experience is required, experience in client / customer service environment
Experience working with the public in health care related field is desirable
KNOWLEDGE
- Some knowledge of principles and practice of Public Health nutrition such as : health promotion concepts epidemiology development ages and stages group processes and group dynamics principles of community mobilization / development principles of teaching and learning plan and implement a learning plan towards increased knowledge and skill development learn, seek out mentorship opportunities, synthesize knowledge and skills in order to advance professionally communicate effectively with individuals and groups, both orally and in writing utilize creative decision-making and problem-solving skills set priorities and manage time effectively
- Knowledge of nutrition education issues.
- Advanced knowledge of computer systems and City software packages
