Job Description
Position Summary :
Act as liaison between the MSC Head office, MSC Technical office, MSC Canada, agents, terminals, tugs, pilots and transport Canada. The Port Captain is responsible for ensuring effective delivery of vessel operations objectives across our East Canada ports, maintaining great relationship with terminal operators, and providing highly accurate reporting and scheduling to various stakeholders both inside and outside the Agency. The Port Captain is responsible for overseeing all vessel port operations to ensure efficient, safe, and timely handling of vessels. This role demands strong leadership, exceptional organizational skills, and a commitment to operational excellence.

Enhanced task complexity and accountability to customer. Enhanced autonomy in role, contributing significantly to team / organizational projects. Accountable for accuracy and efficiency in assigned tasks. Starting to mentor junior staff.
Qualifications
Key Tasks
- Coordinating vessel arrivals and departures
- Optimizing port stay durations
- Managing labor orders for crane operations
- Implementing cost-saving strategies
- Plans for weather conditions
- Maximizes berth productivity
- Always find ways to save fuel on arrival or departure
- Coordinates bunkering and repair activities
- Highlight deviations from the berthing plan to the network department and propose solutions that will improve the prospects for the network as a whole
- Communicates arrival times of pilots and tugs to vessel masters.
- Maintain the berthing program application including the proforma berthing elements
- Weekly report in the Event manager to share results, success, and challenges of the week
- Record all events in the Event manager to make interested parties aware
- Vessel incidents and accident to be reported immediately
- Validating Vessel Call Information
- Maintaining Port Specs in MDM system
