Position Description
Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon
The Hospital for Sick Children
The Department of Surgery, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is inviting applications for a full-time academic Paediatric Orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialty interest in lower extremity reconstruction plus or minus management of paediatric bone tumors. The effective date of this appointment is as soon as possible.
Primary Description
Responsibilities include clinical, scholarly, and administrative duties, as required. The clinical component of the position will include a substantial commitment to the care of children with lower extremity deformities. An appropriate candidate may choose to focus on a particular child population, including but not limited to children with congenital limb deficiencies, foot disorders, hip conditions, benign and malignant tumors, or similar conditions requiring complex orthopaedic care in children with concomitant diagnoses. Other clinical duties include participation in the emergency Orthopaedic call schedule at SickKids. The candidate should have a strong academic background and is expected to complement the Division's scholarly productivity. A scholarly focus on research, education, or global health is welcomed. Clinical and scholarly time allocation will be negotiated based upon the candidate's qualifications, scholarly productivity, and academic plan. All candidates must be able to function proficiently in English, hold an MD, MBBS, or the equivalent.
Additional Description
The successful candidate should be a recently qualified fellowship trained surgeon with outstanding potential, or an established surgeon with an international reputation. The candidate will provide effective and collaborative leadership at the hospital, provincial, national, and international level. Start-up support and mentorship will be provided for the successful candidate. The candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher at the University of Toronto and be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Candidates must obtain an appropriate Visa, if applicable.
Our division is comprised of nine full-time and two part-time academic surgeons, five paediatric orthopaedic fellows, as well as orthopaedic residents on rotation. We are well supported by advanced practice physiotherapists, nurse practitioners, orthopaedic technologists, and administrative staff.
Commensurate with qualifications and experience, base remuneration will be in the range of $352,614 - $500,000 for 35 hours work per week plus on-call responsibilities, to which will be added an equal distribution of billing overages. Support for relocation expenses may be offered.
Our Commitment to Diversity
The children and families we care for are diverse, and so are our employees. All are welcome to join our unique organizational culture and be part of our inclusive team.
The University of Toronto and SickKids are strongly committed to diversity within its community and especially welcomes applications from racialized persons, persons of colour, women, Indigenous / Aboriginal People of North America, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ persons, and others who may contribute to further diversification of ideas.
