HOUR OF WORK : FULL-TIME, PERMANENT (35 HRS / WEEK)
REPORTS TO : HOUSING MANAGER
WAGE : $28 / hr to $32 / hr
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Housing Outreach Worker’s role consists of liaising with tenants and community members to provide support, facilitation, and system navigation. The Housing Outreach Worker must be able to demonstrate the ability to apply culturally safe and competent care, including when working with Indigenous peoples.
The designate must maintain effective working relationships with other staff members, Chief and Council, community members and public.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organize and coordinate tenant seminar series geared towards rental property maintenance
- Support tenant families with accessing community resources
- Assist with onboarding new tenants, move-in and move-out logistics, and provide ongoing support in various social aspects
- Assist property management with administrative tasks
- Sound knowledge of current social issues such as poverty, homelessness, mental illness, addictions, domestic violence, child protection, etc
- Ability to apply a high degree of discretion in establishing supportive, trusting relationships with tenants, while respecting the role and obligations of property management staff according to TFN internal policies
- Experience with tenant-landlord relationships would be an asset
- Experiencing working in an indigenous community would be an asset
- Experience in supporting diverse populations that face multiple barriers to housing
- Sound knowledge of community resources and methods of accessing social programming
