Position Summary
This position is based out of the Acheson facility with requirements to travel to various McAsphalt facilities within Western Canada on a limited basis.
The Health & Safety Assistant will be a member of the McAsphalt HSE&Q Team responsible for building a culture of excellence and awareness in this area and collaborating in the achievement team goals. Responsibilities will include assisting with the development and execution of work procedures and making health, safety and environmental (HSE&Q) recommendations accordingly. The role will also assist the Regional Specialist and Facility Managers with preparing, maintaining, and updating plant specific; HSE&Q policies and manuals, developing methods to drive continuous improvement of HSE&Q practices, ensuring compliance with all HSE&Q regulations, and changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. The role will support with providing work direction and training to management and plant level employees with technical support for environmental and safety related controls during projects and maintenance activities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with special projects including but not limited to Risk Control Projects (RCP).
- Provide support with environmental engineering initiatives.
- Prepare, develop, and implement site compliance audits working with corporate HSE Manager.
- Develops and delivers site specific Health, Safety and Environmental related training.
- Assist with accident / incident investigations and the development / implementation of effective corrective actions.
- Provides support as it relates the continual improvement of the facility Integrated Management System (IMS) as it relates to HSE.
- Assist HSE Specialist and Facility Management with compliance monitoring.
- Monitors, and analyzes applicable regulations and communicates information on changes in the regulatory environments and delegates responsibility for further analysis and implementation.
- Leads, coordinates, or participates on multidisciplinary project teams.
- Conducts and assists with the development of job hazard analysis and directs completion of corrective actions.
- Provides input into specific work instructions for day-to-day tasks,
- Conducts workplace safety inspections and safety talks,
- Act as site HS committee member.
- Inspection and maintenance of emergency equipment
- Other duties as required
