ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY
Black & McDonald's Southern Ontario Utilities team is growing! If you are an independent, enthusiastic, and driven professional searching for an opportunity to build a solid foundation for your career, this position is for you. The Surveyor / Utility Locator is located in Scarborough and typically reports directly to the Project Manager
Duties Include :
Identifying map location of utilities
Mapping depth of utilities
Assisting in planning and preparing schedules and milestones, and monitoring progress against established timelines
Comply and ensure work is performed in compliance with applicable HSE legislation and company policies and procedures, contract requirements, and Black & McDonald policies and procedures
Coordinate with the project team to plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones and execute project(s) on time, within budget, and in accordance with corporate policy
Maintain departmental and network databases as required to ensure records are kept current and accurate.
Prepare and maintain detailed survey reports, sketches, and documentation for project records.

Perform site surveys to establish accurate reference points, elevations, and alignments for construction projects.
Utilize surveying tools and technologies, including GPS, total stations, and machine control technology.
Coordinate with engineers, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to address survey-related project requirements
Perform survey works using robotic total stations, GPS, and level instruments.
Maintain and verify site control points and benchmarks.
Perform installations / surveys for monitoring where necessary and related reporting.
Ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated.
Perform construction layouts work in various stages.
Cross reference designs with on field installation.
Prepare Layout data / Download field data and make records ready for processing and documentation.
Perform quantity / as built surveys and drafting in Civil 3D.
Work / coordinate with the other field / office personnel.
Prepare daily work report.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Diploma in Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Management or Survey related program
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1-3 years of experience in the Utilities industry
Experience in previous surveyor role or Field coordination
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Intermediate knowledge and understanding of :
Precise and accurate survey measurement methodology
Working knowledge of complex surveyor tools and GPS equipment
Working knowledge of Civil3D, Micro Survey, and Microsoft Office Software
Adaptable to changing priorities and procedures.
Self-motivated, with strong analytical skills, and detail-oriented
Excellent organizational, communication (both written and oral), and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
Possess the following personal qualities : integrity, creativity, high standards, commitment, ethical values, and achievement oriented.
Willing and able to travel within Ontario
Certification of completion : IHSA Cable Locating
Certified Damage Prevention Technician under ORCGA
Knowledge and training of radio electronic devices
