Unit Summary
The Biomedical Technology Services department provides technical expertise to acute care centres for the support and maintenance of medical devices and systems. Services such as electrical inspection, device evaluation and user support are also mandated. Specialties exist for highly sophisticated systems. Also provides support for basic instrumentation. Significant emphasis is placed on the repair and maintenance of medical devices.
Position Summary
The Bio Med Technologist performs biomedical technologist duties such as inspection, repair, calibration, maintenance, and installation of patient-related devices and systems.The Technologist is required to perform site investigation and troubleshooting, and performs user training and assistance when required.The Technologist may take part in design, modification, construction, and evaluation of various devices as required, and performs other duties as assigned.This position is based at a specific site with primary responsibility for the site; however, must be willing to work at any HHS site, depending on circumstance, and may be required to rotate between sites if necessary.May be required to provide occasional support for smaller associate hospitals.The Bio Med Technologist must hold a valid driver’s license.
Schedule Work Hours
Monday to Friday; days
Standby On-call Schedule
Participation in weekly 24 x 7 standby rotation schedule is required to cover off‑hours, weekends, and stat holidays. This is facilitated by carrying a long range pager at all times during the rotation
Qualifications
1. Full college diploma graduate of an accredited engineering technology program in Biomedical Engineering Technology and / or Electronics Engineering Technology.
2. Minimum 3 years experience in the field of Biomedical Technology
3. Strong knowledge of electronics, medical devices / systems, anatomy and physiology
4. Demonstrated ability to interact and deal with healthcare professionals at all levels
