As a Library Security Guard, physical ability is essential as you will be moving around your entire shift, patrolling environments and safeguarding people around you in a Library environment

Responsibilities for Library Security Guard

  • Facilitate access to restricted areas for authorized persons
  • React quickly to threats or incidents
  • Check the proper functioning of alarms and cameras
  • Document incidents and actions taken
  • Respond to alarms and conduct on-site checks
  • Collaborate with law enforcement during serious incidents
  • Excessive foot patrols (interior / exterior) sensitive areas to spot any suspicious activity
  • Responding to tenant requests
  • Emergency Response
  • Monitor closed circuit cameras
  • Removal of unauthorized individuals
  • React quickly and professionally during emergencies or stressful situations.
  • Conflict de-escalation and trauma-informed safety approaches, with a focus on anti-racism and cultural awareness.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English for clear and calm interactions.
  • Provide a visible security presence on all floors of Library and Skywalk during operational hours.
  • Control access to the library entrance, including operating metal detection gates and welcoming visitors.
  • Offer site information and directions to the public, maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Collaborate effectively with library staff, Community Safety Hosts, and Crisis Workers to create a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Follow opening and closing procedures, including locking / unlocking doors, elevators, and rooms, and activating / deactivating alarm systems.
  • Maintain detailed logs of unusual occurrences.

    • Qualifications for Library Security Guard

  • Be authorized to work in Canada
  • Hold a valid Manitoba security license
  • First aid certification an asset
  • Maintains a positive attitude and professional appearance.
  • Ability to stand and walk entire shift
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • First Aid training ( An Asset)
  • Physically and mentally fit to perform duties.
  • Tactical experience ( Asset)
  • Good with Technology
