Adecco is currently hiring a full-time Car Mechanic Apprentice (Freight Car Repairer) to join a dynamic rail operations team. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, building, and repairing railway freight cars and equipment in accordance with federal regulations and company standards. This position offers a structured path toward becoming a fully qualified Journey Car Mechanic through paid training and apprenticeship opportunities.

Responsibilities:
  • Inspect rail cars and components in accordance with railroad association standards and federal regulations
  • Perform preventive, scheduled, and on-demand maintenance and repairs on freight cars and systems
  • Repair and install components such as air valves, compressors, bearings, couplings, cylinders, and piping
  • Maintain underframes, structures, safety appliances, and draft systems
  • Use tools including hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and cutting torches
  • Operate equipment such as cranes, trucks, and shop machinery
  • Complete inspection reports, maintenance logs, and documentation accurately
  • Work safely and efficiently while meeting quality and performance standards
Qualifications and Skills:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to meet medical fitness and safety requirements
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to identify wear and defects in parts
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing conditions
  • Previous welding experience
  • Vocational or technical training in mechanical or rail operations
  • Familiarity with railroad operating rules
  • Experience using electrical or electronic tools
  • Mu st be legally eligible to work, and reside in Canada

Working Conditions
  • Work in both indoor and outdoor environments in various weather conditions
  • Perform physically demanding tasks including lifting (up to 50 lbs regularly, 85 lbs occasionally), bending, kneeling, and climbing
  • Work night shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
  • May be required to travel or work away from assigned terminal
  • Requires strong hand-eye coordination and physical stamina
