The Director, Finance is assigned work by, and reports to, the President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Short- and long-term financial reports are to be provided regularly to the President & CEO and COO. TIRF completes approximately 30 research projects annually for government, industry and non-profit sponsors. Each project has distinct funding mechanisms, reporting practices, partners and timelines. In addition, TIRF also receives donations and provides a variety of free services.

The Director, Finance must have strong knowledge of, and experience with, Canadian charity rules, regulations and reporting. They require extensive experience with hands-on day-to-day accounting, audits, banking, cash flow projections, public service bodies rebates, payroll, human resources, time tracking, insurance, legal, IT and other miscellaneous duties. A knowledge of IRS requirements for both payroll and charity reporting is preferable; familiarity with currency exchange is an asset.

Extensive knowledge of QuickBooks, Adobe Acrobat and an expert-level knowledge of MS Excel is a mandatory requirement. The Director, Finance must be capable of working independently, in a fast-paced and complex environment, managing priorities, and efficiently organizing their time. Effective inter-personal communication skills with senior management and other staff is mandatory.

Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential for success as the Director, Finance.
