We are currently seeking a Junior Structural Engineer to join our Fredericton team and support the delivery of one of Atlantic Canada's most significant infrastructure renewal initiatives. Working alongside experienced engineers and project specialists, you will contribute to the assessment, rehabilitation, and design of critical hydroelectric and civil infrastructure while developing your technical and project delivery skills in a collaborative EPCM environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the structural assessment, analysis, and design of concrete, steel, and hydraulics-related infrastructure associated with hydroelectric facilities, dams, and ancillary structures.
  • Perform structural calculations, engineering analyses, and modeling under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist with condition assessments, inspections, and rehabilitation recommendations for existing infrastructure.
  • Prepare engineering reports, technical specifications, drawings, and design documentation.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, and environmental disciplines.
  • Participate in site visits, field investigations, construction reviews, and condition assessments as required.
  • Support the review of contractor submittals, shop drawings, and construction documentation.
  • Assist with quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and project planning activities.
  • Contribute to maintaining Hatch's commitment to safety, quality, innovation, and technical excellence.
  • Support project delivery activities to meet scope, budget, and schedule objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering.
  • 0 to 3 years of structural engineering experience, preferably involving industrial, heavy civil, infrastructure, hydroelectric, or water-retaining structures.
  • Registered as an EIT or eligible for registration with Engineers New Brunswick (or another Canadian engineering association).
  • Knowledge of structural analysis and design principles for reinforced concrete and steel structures.
  • Familiarity with structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, SAFE, or similar tools.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary project environment.
  • Willingness to conduct field work and travel periodically to project and construction sites.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and obtaining professional engineering licensure.

Why join Hatch on this project?

  • Work on one of Canada's largest hydroelectric infrastructure renewal projects.
  • Gain hands-on experience in structural rehabilitation, dam infrastructure, and major capital projects.
  • Collaborate with industry-leading engineers and technical specialists.
  • Develop your career within Hatch's global engineering and project delivery network.
  • Contribute to sustainable infrastructure that will support New Brunswick's energy future for decades to come.
