These settings may include advanced scientific materials in a variety of Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) disciplines.Consults and collaborates with Interpreting Services Manager, Faculty, Staff and students on innovative approaches to academic interpreting, inclusivity, and policy.Keeps up to date with research on best practices for Academic InterpretingReviews and actively prepares for interpretation of a variety of technical materials including undergraduate & graduate studies research projects, high level meetings, course offerings, department meetings, research programs, etc.In collaboration with the Interpreting Services Manager, tracks interpreting service provisions.Prepares preparation material packages for Office in collaboration with Interpreting Services Manager.This includes the development of special projects related to academic interpreting, scientific ASL and / or related topics under the direction of the Manager to meet changing workload demands.Experience and Education RequirementsTo be the successful ASL Interpreter you will have : Completion of recognized Sign Language Interpreter Training Program and holds a sign language interpreting diploma or degree.Undergraduate university, and / or other education, professional, and training experiences outside of interpreting training programs are also assets.CASLI Certificate of Interpretation (COI), or RID National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or equivalent, or have initiated the process to achieve certification.Holds membership in the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI), Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), or equivalent.Minimum five years' experience in English - American Sign Language interpreting.Ability to travel worldwide and must hold a valid passport for international travel (or be able to obtain such passport).Valid driver's license; and 3 years clean driving record.Comfortable in outdoor settings, including in and around water.Comfortable being physically active while interpreting, such as being in the field for interpreting.Ability to learn and analyze high-level professional communication in ASL and English as well as the ability to accommodate a variance of communication registers.
