Community Engagement Specialist

Reporting to the Communications & Stakeholder Engagement, Manager, this position is responsible for the following duties :

As a key member of our CSR team, you’ll be at the heart of connecting with communities near our operations, particularly in northern Saskatchewan. You’ll attend community meetings and events, support local employment initiatives, and work to fulfill Orano’s commitments to Indigenous Peoples. With regular travel to northern communities, you’ll build and nurture meaningful, respectful relationships while developing your communication and project management skills. What you’ll accomplish :

  • Support Orano’s operational, exploration and regulatory requirements by providing opportunities for meaningful Indigenous and community engagement for projects and advancing current activities
  • Strengthen relationships with Indigenous employees, leaders, companies and partners, particularly in northern Saskatchewan
  • Develop and implement an engagement plan aligned with Orano’s Public Information Program to support operations and activities
  • Collaborate with the CSR team to ensure Orano meets and communicates its obligations in the Collaboration Agreements
  • Regularly visit northern communities to engage in meetings and events, answer questions, and to develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous and community leaders
  • Engage with Community Liaisons and HR to help find qualified local candidates for employment
  • Identify, monitor and address emerging issues and concerns from northern and Indigenous communities, in coordination with the CSR and Orano management team
  • Represent Orano Canada on the ICMM Indigenous Peoples Working Group to stay updated on international standards and practices
  • Support the Exploration, Supply Chain and Regulatory Relations departments during the planning, regulatory and business contracting aspects of Orano’s exploration activities
  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain Department to develop northern business capacity and promote Orano contracting opportunities to strengthen local relationships
  • Administer Orano scholarship and targeted training programs, for the advancement of Athabasca Basin and northern students, and prospective employees
  • Embrace and support Operational Excellence efforts and OE Culture
  • Comply with all Orano health, safety and environmental policies, practices and procedures
  • Promote and adhere to Orano Canada’s values : Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Respect and People Development, Cohesion and Team Spirit, and Exemplarity, Integrity, Responsibility

Qualities and skills we’re seeking :

  • Experience working with Saskatchewan’s Indigenous peoples is considered an asset
  • Experience living and working in northern Saskatchewan, is considered an asset
  • Post-secondary education related to Indigenous Studies, Economic Development, Education, Human Resource Development, Environmental Science or other related disciplines will be considered an asset
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English. Ability to speak Dene or Cree will be considered an asset
  • Must have computer skills and be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills required for the creation of effective relationships, considering the diversity of the geography and culture of Saskatchewan
  • Strong engagement and organizational skills are required
  • Must be patient and adaptable, allowing for the participation of a variety of voices
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders on a diverse group of projects

  • Work Location & Schedule :

  • Saskatoon Corporate Office
  • Regular travel to northern communities and mine sites will be required
