Literacy Catalyst (Full Time 1.0 Position) The Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority (ADEA) is a First Nation Education Authority serving the three Denesuline First Nations communities in northern Saskatchewan; Black Lake First Nation, Hatchet Lake First Nation, and Fond Du Lac First Nation. The Authority serves a total student population of approximately 1,300+ students. The Authority is working toward improved educational outcomes by utilizing the latest technology, progressively piloting programs, and integrating Denesuline culture into the classroom and school curriculum. The ADEA is seeking a competent, confident, motivated individual to fill the position of Literacy Catalyst for 2024-2025 school year at Father Gamache Memorial School (FGMS), located in Fond Du Lac, Saskatchewan. In this role, you will provide strong interpersonal skills, commitment to learning and teaching in project-based ways and provide an enthusiastic work environment for staff / students. FGMS is a Pre-K to Grade 12 facility with a student population of 350+, and a strong group of professional and paraprofessional staff. This competition is open to all applicants who reside in Canada; and preference will be given to First Nation or other Indigenous applicants who possess the qualifications, knowledge, and skills to meet the minimum suitability requirements as stated for the position. Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities Provide direct instruction in the areas of reading and writing for identified groups and individual students, with an emphasis on emergent, beginning, and transitional readers. Identify literature for use in all content areas in support of the curriculum. Provide curriculum support and training for all teachers and continuous staff development that supports A.D.E.A.'s initiatives. Model and coach instructional methods in a variety of settings (whole group and small group) and provide follow-up support. Collaborate with and coach teachers on the use of assessment data to plan instruction; analyze school literacy data and plan for future literacy needs. Assess students using a variety of measures to determine appropriate placement and specific instructional needs. Conduct classroom visitations and provides feedback to teachers and administrators on the school's literacy program. Assist with the planning and delivery of parent workshops and informational sessions involving the Literacy program. Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Knowledge of Saskatchewan’s English Language Arts curriculum and techniques for integrating curriculum; and effective instructional practices Knowledge of the needs of students requiring remedial reading instruction; thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education. Ability to infuse technology into curriculum. Ability to guide and train teachers in effective techniques and strategies. Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school-based staff, students, parents and community. Ability to use diagnostic data to tailor instruction to meet the needs of the student(s) Excellent organizational, communication, and human relations skills Qualifications : Bachelor’s degree, a teaching certificate or credential or equivalent professional experience which would translate to successful classroom teaching. Advanced degree preferred but not required. Background and training in literacy / reading at multiple grade levels. Experience in teaching with one or more of the following : Balanced Literacy Program, Guided Reading, Reading Benchmark Assessments, Daily Five & Animated Literacy Must be eligible for or posses a valid Saskatchewan Teaching Certificate. Experience in working at a First Nations remote community would be an asset.
