The Finance Director is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing all financial operations in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, along with other regulatory and advisory organizations, and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the industry. This role manages budgeting, financial planning, accounting, auditing, and compliance while collaborating with the Senior Leadership Team to drive the organization’s mission. The Finance Director will establish strong internal controls, guide financial policy development, and provide accurate, timely & transparent financial reporting.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND DELIVERABLES :
Financial Management & Compliance
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization’s fiscal functions and performance.
- Develop, implement, enforce and regularly evaluate fiscal policies and procedures of the organization, including use of a systems-based approach to improve the overall operational effectiveness and efficiency.
- Deliver timely and accurate monthly, quarterly & annual financial reports, analysis of budgets, and financial trends in order to assist the CEO, senior executives, Board, program departments and others in performing their responsibilities.
- Develop, implement, and monitor annual budgets, financial forecasts, and cash flow projections. Enact reliable & valid process and reporting mechanism in these areas to ensure minimum cash threshold meet operating needs.
- Deliver continual improvement of the budgeting process through performance outcome evaluation, along with education of & coordination with department managers on financial issues impacting department budgets.
- Coordinate, implement & oversee all day-to-day accounting functions of the Organization including, but not limited to, accounts payable / receivable, general ledger management, petty cash, point-of-sale systems, contract development & management, accounts management, lease management, etc.
- Directly & effectively manage the handling of bank deposit / debit activities, all bank & investment accounts, all loan, lease & mortgage accounts, financial institution relationships, and all other financial transactions.
- Act as the accountable party to develop, implement, manage & evaluate the Organization’s Technology Plan and contracted Information Technology services.
- Coordinate with auditors to successfully complete annual external and other audits, working closely with auditors to ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Oversee the preparation, and ensure the timely filing of regulatory financial reports (e.g., Form 990) and corporate filings (e.g., Secretary of State filings).
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, MN Department of Human Services and MN DEED / VRS requirements, Licensing & Accreditation standards, Grant-specific requirements, and all other applicable and / or relevant nonprofit / field-related accounting standards.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position is responsible for direct supervision of business and / or accounting management staff, and indirect supervision of all employees in the accounting and finance department.
Work Environment
This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours of the work are typical business hours (e.g., Monday through Friday; 8 : 00 am to 4 : 00 pm). Flexibility required, such that evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
This position requires up to 25% travel.
