Position summary

This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer ( CFO ), the incumbent is responsible for all areas relating to financial planning, forecasting, analysis, procurement and cash management.

The Finance Manager will be responsible for managing the team to ensure that the Canadian GAAP, the Accounting and Organization Policy & Procedures are followed, and all the statutory and management reports are completed in a timely and accurate manner.

S / he will have contact with Executives which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the preparation of annual operating and capital budget and provides consultation and guidelines to budget owners to ensure appropriate understanding of the budget dynamics and organizational changes.
  • Prepares the necessary financial reports to support the organization’s goals and integrates the financial impact of selected strategies into models.
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly forecast reports and reviews Ministry funding situations to optimize resource utilization.
  • Identifies areas for improvement to continually drive performance and business results.
  • Collaborate with other department managers to support overall organization goals and objectives.
  • Provide training, coaching, supports and guidance to accounting staff; handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and performance objectives; monitor, communicate and coach on the progress to help staff in achieving higher performance and accomplishing performance objectives.
  • Support CFO with special projects and process improvements.
  • Any other duties may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce or related field.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • 5 years of related experience in not-for-profit environments with in-depth knowledge on Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with attention to detail and openness to new ideas and procedures.
  • High standards of accuracy and precision, highly organized.
  • Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Chinese.
  • Ability to think creatively, highly self-driven and self-motivated.
  • Demonstrated ability to take on challenging tasks and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex business and financial reports.
  • A high level of commitment to customer service towards internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure with a proactive approach.
  • Extensive experience with MS Office software and Sage Accpac accounting software.
  • Experience in cost analysis is an asset.
