Duties

Provision of skilled carpentry services for industrial and residential buildings and structures, and other assets in a national park, historic site.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION :

Successful completion of secondary school according to interprovincial standards.

Occupational Certification :

Interprovincial Journeyman’s certificate in carpentry (Red Seal)

Individuals who have their Interprovincial Journeyman Carpenter Certificate from Alberta can be considered for a 9 month term offer in order to provide time to obtain their Red Seal. Term extension will not be granted without Red Seal Certification.

NOTE : A copy of certification will be required at time of interview.

EXPERIENCE IN :

  • Substantial experience in the carpentry trade in a maintenance shop environment;
  • Maintenance of residential and light industrial buildings;
  • Maintenance of historical buildings;
  • Maintenance of outdoor structures / facilities.
  • The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

    English essential

    KNOWLEDGE OF :

  • Carpentry trade, practices and procedures;
  • Current methods and practices related to structural repair and maintenance;
  • Current codes, statues, and regulations related to carpentry;
  • Of health and safety in the workplace.
  • ABILITIES :

  • Use Carpentry related tools and equipment;
  • Perform general labour tasks associated with the carpentry trade;
  • Maintain work records and drawings;
  • Review and interpret conceptual plans, building / construction plans;
  • Work independently and assess and adjust priorities.
  • PERSONAL SUITABILITY :

  • Exercises sound judgement;
  • Communicates effectively;

    Asset Qualifications :

    The following qualifications may be applied and / or assessed because they are beneficial in carrying out the duties of the position. They may be used in screening, assessment or determining right fit for this selection process, so please describe how you meet any of the following criteria.

  • Copies of current certification will be required at time of interview.
  • Experience in drywall installation, mudding and tapping.
  • Experience conducting code compliance inspections of public / workplace buildings.
  • OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Willing and able to work weekends, shift work, statutory holidays and overtime, if required;
  • Willing and able to travel and work in a variety of climatic and geographical conditions to various work sites;
  • Willing and able to wear identifier clothing and safety equipment and follow safety procedures.
  • Conditions of employment

  • Must be met prior to employment;
  • Obtain and maintain a reliability security clearance;
  • Maintenance of occupational certifications;
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s Licence;
  • Required to undergo and pass periodic medical checks (audiogram).
