YOUTH CARE WORKER Position Description : There is a position available for a Youth Care Worker with School District No. 60. All Applications must be completed online and will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled. The primary work locations for this position will be middle and secondary school locations . Reporting to the site Administrative Officer(s), this position is responsible for working in collaboration with the classroom teacher or school counsellor and various district resource personnel in providing services to students having difficulties coping as a result of social / emotional or mental health problems. These students may be placed in alternative education programs or be receiving support in regular classroom programs. Hours of work : (7) hrs. per day, five (5) days per week Duties to Commence : As soon as possible after closing until June 27, 2025 Work Year Base : Ten (10) months per year Commencing Salary : $31.94 / hr. Duties : Participate in student placement, student progress, and school based team meetings. Assists the teacher / counsellor in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual and group life skills, social skills, self-esteem, and behaviour management programs in school and community settings. Provide crisis intervention and management in both individually and as part of a crisis management team. Facilitate group counselling sessions under the direction of the school counsellor. Monitor students as required. Assist students and families in connecting with and accessing outside agency services. Transport identified students to services and visit homes to provide support, on a limited basis. Consult with other professionals in the community and promote inter-agency cooperation. Participate in daily physical education, fitness and recreation programs. Maintain accurate and comprehensive records and evidence of interventions. Gather documents for funding purposes. Assumes other responsibilities that are site and program specific. Performs other job related duties as directed. Qualifications and Attributes : Grade 12 or equivalency Minimum of two years of university or college course work in areas relating to youth care and counselling; Training in Crisis Prevention Intervention; (15 hour certification program) required before completion of probationary period. Two years recent experience (within 5 years) in Conflict Resolution, Anger Management, and Life Skills Coaching, working with youth, with diagnosed behaviour or mental health disorders (i.e. FAS, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Childhood Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, and Eating Disorder); Valid B.C. drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle; Clean Drivers Abstract Food Safe Ability to work independently and set priorities Ability to manage difficult conversations WHMIS Certificate and other online safety training provided by the District to be completed within the probationary period Good interpersonal skills and the ability to be an integral part of a team Must be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search conducted by the District prior to staring employment PLEASE NOTE : Proof of graduation and / or highest level of education is required prior to starting position For more information please contact : Wade Hart, Director of Instruction (250)262-6017 or email whartprn.bc.ca All applications must be made through Make A Future website for consideration for the position .
