Overview / Background

The County of Dufferin is an upper-tier municipality that sits on the Greater Toronto Area fringe, about km northwest of Toronto. It is primarily a rural county with three urban settlement areas : Grand Valley, Orangeville, and Shelburne. The region is well known for its rivers, rolling hills, and excellent outdoor recreation opportunities. The UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, the Niagara Escarpment, and the world-famous Bruce Trail run through Dufferin, offering spectacular vistas and hiking opportunities. Home to over 67, residents, the area boasts fabulous restaurants, shopping, and amenities.

Position / Responsibilities / Requirements

The County of Dufferin is looking for a progressive, innovative, and customer-focused team player to assist in achieving the Town’s strategic priorities and help shape the next phase of the County of Dufferin’s growth and development. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Director of Development and Tourism will bring strategic vision, an inclusive leadership approach, and a commitment to corporate-wide collaboration to the senior leadership team. The Director of Development and Tourism is a key contributor to the development of organizational culture, corporate decision-making and provides ideas and advice that support the County’s priorities. The Director will oversee the Development and Tourism department, which includes : Planning, Building Permit / Inspection Services, Economic Development, and Tourism and Culture (including the Museum of Dufferin) by providing guidance and direction.

Position Profile

The ideal candidate for the Director of Development and Tourism has a relevant university degree and at least 6 six years of progressive management experience in economic development, planning, or a related field of work. Knowledge of one or more of the Planning Act, the Building Code Act, Economic Development principles or cultural / museum / heritage services, as well as previous diversity, equity and inclusion training would be preferred. You possess exceptional leadership skills with a proven ability to lead, supervise, and mentor a team of managers and staff while working towards a common corporate goal. You also have experience working with elected officials or Boards.
