Egis is experiencing substantial growth in North America, highlighted by our recent acquisition of McIntosh Perry—now made up of over 1,000 engineers, architects and planners across Canada and the USA. This strategic move underscores our commitment to investing in North America, propelling our expansion to new heights.

Joining Egis is an opportunity to make a valuable, positive impact on the world, while growing and developing as a person. Our culture is very collaborative, and we care about people and our impact. We take great pride in being responsible for our clients, for each other and for our planet and its people. You’ll work and innovate in an environment where high standards and personal consideration go hand-in-hand.

Learn more about the exciting opportunity below where you’ll be part of projects renowned for technical excellence, ambition and sustainability!

Egis’ Environmental Division has been recognized over the past 30+ years as providing high-level deliverables and advice to a variety of clients, throughout Ontario and the rest of Canada. Our Environmental Division currently consists of experts in the following fields: Contaminant and Waste, Hydrogeology, Environmental Assessment, Natural Science and Environmental Engineering.

We are looking to expand our Environmental division into Cultural Heritage by hiring a motivated Cultural Heritage Specialist/Lead to support our growing team. Working alongside the Manager, Environmental Engineering (North America) and Practice Area Lead, Environmental Assessment (North America) you will fill an integral senior role on the team, which necessitates technical knowledge, leadership in project management, and most importantly a cultural fit.

Egis’ Environmental Division prides itself on having a people-first culture that emphasizes innovation, respect, fairness, and a commitment to quality. This is demonstrated through our flexible working hours, ‘work from home’ approach, focus on managing projects instead of employee time, and other aspects of our leadership approach.

The ideal candidate will have the following background, skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree/diploma in heritage planning, heritage conservation, or in a heritage-related discipline;
  • 5-10 years of demonstrated Cultural Heritage experience;
  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP)
  • Qualified cultural heritage professional as defined by the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism (MCM);
  • Ability to work independently and grow a team as Cultural Heritage Lead;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of international, federal and provincial heritage legislation and best practices, including the Appleton and Venice Charters, Ontario Heritage Act, Planning Act, Environmental Assessment Act, The Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada, MTO’s heritage policies and procedures and other relevant policy frameworks;
  • Experience providing advice and guidance for heritage related matters for a variety of stakeholders, including the public, and municipal, provincial, and federal heritage agencies;
  • Experience completing historic property research, built heritage surveys, cultural landscape surveys, heritage inventory, determining impacts on the historic environment, and designating properties under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act;
  • Experience writing and completing heritage reports, including Existing Conditions and Preliminary Impact Assessments, Cultural Heritage Assessment Reports (CHAR) Cultural Heritage Evaluation Reports (CHER), Heritage Impact Assessments (HIA), Documentation and Salvage Reports, conservation plans, cultural heritage landscape studies, and other heritage reporting to fulfil requirements under the Planning Act and Environmental Assessment Act, including MCEA, MTO Class Environmental Assessments (EA), and Conservation Authority Class EAs;
  • Experience and familiarity with municipal heritage planning processes, including heritage permit applications, working with property owners, municipal heritage committees, developers and municipal Councillors to best achieve heritage objectives;
  • Experience organising, designing and facilitating public consultation, outreach and educational materials;
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write and review heritage reports including CHR/CHARs, CHERs and HIAs;
  • Experience using a variety of computer software (e.g. Microsoft Office, Excel); and
  • Valid Ontario driver's license.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assistance with the organic growth of the Cultural Heritage group through the addition of key hires, new clients and the pursuit of potential new opportunities;
  • Independently preparing and finalizing cultural heritage reports;
  • Responsible for bidding, preparation of proposals, invoicing and project management of cultural heritage as part of stand-alone proposals or team proposals;
  • Actively engage in client management and business development;
  • Attend, promote and represent Egis at relevant Cultural Heritage industry events;
  • Collaborate with other departments within Egis to promote and educate about Cultural Heritage services; and
  • Maintain positive client relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Egis Canada is an equal opportunities employer offering a competitive salary and benefits to those with the skills suited to the needs of our clients.

We welcome and encourage applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available upon request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
