About the Core Program You will be part of the program that is the first stop for most families who come to CASA Mental Health.

CASA’s Core program serves children ages three to 17 and provides short-term, goal-directed mental health treatment for a wide range of concerns.

From Core, children, youth and families are able to step up or down into more appropriate levels of service if needed.

  • Job Details Wage range: $39.28 - $49.95 Vacation: 15 days per year Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day Primary location: Edmonton, CASA West Union: In-scope Classification: Occupational Therapist FTE: 1.0 Status: Permanent About the Role The Occupational Therapist (OT) role, at CASA Mental Health, provides services to children, youth, and families across multiple programs.

Reporting to the Program Supervisor, Core, this OT role provides assessment, treatment recommendation(s), consultation, and education, within the Core program.

The OT works collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to enhance access to services, ensure seamless transitions, and improve outcomes for children and youth within an integrated model of care.

The OT is required to practice according to the code of ethics and practice standards as set by the assigned regulatory body, as well as CASA Mental Health policies and standards of practices, and adhere to expectations outlined by program leadership.

The OT, specific to the Core program, plays a key role in supporting the child, family, and Mental Health Service Provider(s) with functional challenges that may be impacting their mental health services, as well as supporting the programs team culture, and program development.

The Occupational Therapist will: Complete screening, informal/standardized assessment, consultation, recommendations/advice, and education in the areas of fine motor, gross motor, sensory, and challenges within activities of daily living.

Interpret test results in conjunction with other related medical, behavioral and educational information.

Provide information and recommendations to assist in understanding the clinical condition and ongoing care and management.

Determine appropriate functional and/or diagnostic instrument(s) to use.

Demonstrate proficiency in group facilitation, including patient intervention groups and parent education groups.

Accurately document findings in the electronic health record. Act as a resource and provide supportive training to team members to assist in their professional development.

Participate in the development of children’s mental health teaching and resource materials.

Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members on the following, but not limited to, treatment plans, case consultation, evaluation measures and program development.

Support access to community resources such as recreational programs, occupational therapy, and other supports.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of evidence-based occupational therapy assessment and intervention practices for children and adolescents.

Proficiency in assessment administration, and recommendations, report writing and group facilitation.

Certification in areas relevant to child and adolescent mental health, such as sensory integration or developmental interventions, is beneficial.

Specialized training in pediatric occupational therapy is recommended including additional training or certification in pediatric occupational therapy and mental health interventions.

Qualifications and Experience Active registration, and in good standing, with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

A minimum of three years of pediatric experience.

Mental health experience is an asset.

Experience working with children and youth with social, emotional and behavioral difficulties in community-based, school-based and/or day program settings.

Conditions of Employment A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check.

This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.

Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.

Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
