Job Summary : The role of the 3rd Class Power Engineer involves the safe and efficient operation of high-pressure steam systems in a SAGD facility.
This position is critical to the continuous production of steam necessary for the extraction of heavy oil. You will monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot boilers, turbines, and associated systems, ensuring that operational targets are met in compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities : Steam Generation : Operate and maintain high-pressure steam boilers, turbines, and related equipment within the SAGD facility to meet production requirements.
Process Monitoring : Continuously monitor and adjust controls on boilers, steam generators, pumps, and compressors, ensuring optimal system performance.
Data Logging : Record operational data such as pressure, temperature, and equipment performance metrics. Interpret data to maintain efficient plant operation and anticipate issues.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting : Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs to equipment, identifying and resolving any mechanical issues in a timely manner.
Safety Compliance : Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and occupational health standards, participating in regular safety audits and contributing to hazard identification and mitigation plans.
System Shutdowns & Startups : Participate in planned system shutdowns, startups, and commissioning activities, working with other engineers and operational staff.
Emergency Response : Actively respond to emergency situations, mitigating risks to personnel, equipment, and the environment.
Continuous Improvement : Engage in initiatives that drive operational efficiency, energy savings, and cost-effectiveness in steam generation.
Qualifications : Certification : 3rd Class Power Engineer Certification (in good standing). Experience : Minimum 3-5 years of experience in steam generation, preferably in a SAGD or related heavy oil facility.
Technical Skills : Strong knowledge of high-pressure steam boilers, turbines, and SAGD-related processes. Safety Mindset : In-depth understanding of safety regulations, environmental compliance, and emergency response protocols.
Additional Skills : Ability to operate Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and familiarity with PLC systems is considered an asset.
Work Environment : Physically demanding work in outdoor settings with exposure to various weather conditions. Must adhere to strict safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Rotational shifts (days / nights) and on-call responsibilities as required by plant operations. Preferred Assets : Water Treatment Expertise : Experience with water treatment systems and chemical handling related to steam generation.
