Junior Technologist, Bio Industrial Services
InnoTech Alberta is seeking a junior technologist for our Bio-Industrial Operations in Edmonton, Alberta. The junior technologist will support senior staff in the development, organization, monitoring of experiments and the development, operation and maintenance of equipment.

The junior technologist will be responsible for handling of a wide spectrum of biomaterials, wood materials and agricultural fibre materials as well as assisting in the maintenance of electronic or mechanical equipment and performing tests with a wide range of instruments and equipment.
The successful incumbent will be accountable for (but not limited to) the following :
- Operating various process equipment and mobile equipment (forklift)
- Mixing, blending, and weighing of materials, installing and operating equipment and configuring equipment for engineered bio composite material production, bio material production and product testing and fibre processing.
Operations could be in labs, the field or in pilot facilities.
- Data entry and the accurate recording of experimental information
- Operating instruments to conduct specific tests and measurements.
- Performing experimental unit installation and maintenance in plant or field operations
- Performing general lab procedures following protocols such as preparing solutions and working with chemical, microbial and biomaterial samples
- Providing general material processing duties and support to senior staff to complete scheduled projects.
- Assembling pilot and lab equipment and configuring equipment for operations.
- Completing a variety of material processing duties within the various Bio-Industrial Pilot Facilities & Operations groups.
- Manual lifting, shoveling and housekeeping.
Educational Requirement :
- Technical diploma in the mechanical, or instrumentation or chemistry field
- Other post-secondary education, such as automation, PLC programming or instrumentation, with relevant experience would be considered an asset.
Experience and Qualifications we are looking for :
- A minimum of three years of technical work experience is desirable.
- Experience with, mechanical equipment, knowledge of crops and farming practices, and experience with steam would be considered assets.
- Comfortable with technology and computer software
- Comfortable working within an industrial setting and familiarity with industrial hazards and processes
- The successful candidate must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to travel to fields or industry locations.
Skills Required :
Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills as well as the ability to write technical data reports.
