Dance Instructor (Temporary Part Time for approximately 12 months)

Position Overview :

Develops, and instructs creative, engaging, and innovative dance programs for participants.

Responsibilities :

  • Prepares and conducts safe dance group classes following required standards.
  • Demonstrates and instructs group dance classes; explains and demonstrates proper techniques; provides feedback to participants.

Modifies programs as needed to ensure inclusion of all participants.

  • Prepares appropriate music and equipment.
  • Monitors class participants and ensures safe practices.
  • Integrates inclusion staff, private support workers, and volunteers into programs.
  • Completes records and reports including class attendance and accident / incident reports.
  • Ensures safe use, condition, and storage of equipment.
  • Distributes applicable forms and program information (., course evaluation forms, general information, brochures).
  • Adheres to policies and procedures established for City of Kitchener facilities.
  • Reviews emergency procedures with participants; follows established procedures during emergencies.
  • Responds to participants immediate concerns and / or needs and provides customer service.
  • Acts as a liaison between the community centre and participants.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements :

  • Equivalent to partial secondary school education.
  • Current technical and practical training in one or more dance disciplines (., ballet, ballroom dancing, jazz, tap, hip hop, belly dancing, creative movement classes).
  • 3 months of related experience in a specific dance program.
  • Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check at your own expense as a condition of employment (applicable to instructors of children and youth programs).
  • Valid CPR Level C and Emergency First Aid Certificate.
  • Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
