About this role

What will you be responsible for?

As a Senior Estimator specializing in Closure Estimating at Newmont, you will play a pivotal role in providing guidance, leadership, and expertise in the development and adherence to the company's standards for closure estimating.

You will work closely with the Director, Projects and Closure Estimating to define standards, processes, procedures, and tools to streamline closure estimating functions across Newmont Global Projects.

Knowledge of US regulatory requirements for closure estimates is considered an asset.

In this role you will

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like :

  • Closure Estimating Leadership and Expertise
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert for Closure Estimating within Global Projects, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and US regulatory requirements when applicable.
  • Take ownership of the closure estimating tools within global projects, continuously improving them to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the estimating process.
  • Provide assurance activities for closure estimates as required e.g. preliminary and final estimate plan reviews, stage-gate reviews, definitive estimate reviews, review of consultant and vendor estimates, risk reviews and yearly closure estimate reviews.

Support and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with, and support the Head of Closure, Director of Closure and Project Manager of Closure in activities associated with the annual closure estimating process across all sites within the Newmont portfolio.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Projects and Closure Estimating to provide essential tools and processes required for accurate closure estimates.
  • Support the Director, Projects and Closure Estimating in planning, recruiting, training, mentoring, and developing talent within the Estimating function.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop and maintain relationships with various stakeholders related to Closure Estimating, including Value Assurance, Regional Project Directors, Study Directors, Engineering, Project Evaluation, and Regional Closure Teams.
  • Assist in the preparation of Authorization for Expenditure documentation.

Governance and Benchmarking

  • Development of Closure Estimates as required, ensuring compliance with Newmont standards.
  • Develop and maintain the governance documentation for Closure Estimating.
  • Provide direct support for the yearly closure estimating process and reporting, ensuring transparency, accuracy and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • In collaboration with the Director, Projects and Closure estimating, develop and maintain the Closure Benchmarking processes and system.
  • Conduct Assurance activities as required to maintain the quality of Closure Estimating.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare, or aid in the development of organized and structured documentation for closure estimates, ensuring transparency and traceability.
  • Collaborate with regional teams to coordinate closure estimate preparation and ensure alignment with company standards.
  • Provide input to the Closure group Closure Calendar, particularly with respect to estimating activities.
  • Regularly monitor the progress of site closure estimating activities, offering detailed guidance and support where necessary.
  • Provide input into scope management processes to maintain project integrity.

Education :

degree in related field preferred.

Experience :

  • Minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in estimating on heavy industrial projects, or an equivalent combination of training and experience are necessary.
  • At least 2 years field construction experience and at least 2 years in an EPC consulting / construction environment would be an advantage.
  • Cost OS (Prism) experience preferred, but not required.
  • Prefer experience associated with power, mining or heavy infrastructure work in both domestic US and international locations.

Skills and Abilities :

  • Ability to give direction to co-ordinate activities across different stakeholders.
  • Analytical / problem assessment capability.
  • Advanced ability to define, review and communicate appropriate best estimating practice.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office), specifically expert level MS Excel.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.

Working conditions & location

  • The primary location for this position is the Vancouver regional office but qualified candidates in proximity to the Denver corporate headquarters will also be considered.
  • Position will be required to travel to and assist other domestic and international sites.
  • Position may require frequent and / or extended travel to foreign locations.

The expected salary range for this role is CAD $ 133,960 to 149,815. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia.

The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and / or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
