Salary and Benefits

In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.6% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave :

  • 5.6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
  • 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay
  • In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay :

  • $3.25 per hour for weekends and holidays
  • $2.75 per hour for evenings

    Recruitment for 2026 Summer Season

    Southern Alberta is looking to recruit the following for the 2026 summer season :

  • 16-18 Information Officers (AS2) for Cypress Hills, Beauvais Lake, Chain Lakes, Park Lake, Police Outpost and Writing-on-Stone / Áísínai’pi Provincial Parks.
  • Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service as the first point of contact for visitors. Greet and welcome them in a friendly, approachable, inclusive and professional manner.
  • Maintain and improve knowledge to provide accurate, concise and relevant information, whether in-person, by telephone or via email, on recreational activities, park facilities, services, park programs, public safety issues, tourism and travel opportunities, directives, policies and regulations.
  • Receive, respond and manage all customer service issues, concerns, complaints, emergencies, and other feedback professionally and appropriately; escalating these to other departments, such as park rangers, caretaking, maintenance, visitor engagement, visitor services, or your supervisor, as required.
  • Assist and work closely with other departments as required to ensure operational and visitor needs are met; e.g. assist maintenance / caretaking for light shower building cleaning or light campsite garbage removal; assist visitor engagement with program set‑up and teardown.
  • Identify and report any issues or concerns with the reservation system, tills, POS, equipment, supplies, etc. in a timely manner to your supervisor.
  • As directed by the Supervisor, assist in the distribution of information-based communications such as posters, brochures, maps and program advertisements.
  • Record and report statistics as directed by your supervisor.
  • Become a Park specialist with detailed and accurate knowledge of all park areas, natural / cultural history, programs, and conditions (trails, water quality, weather, etc.) to provide the public with current information.
  • Record and report necessary safety, compliance, accident, or wildlife occurrences.
  • Complete all required online, in-person, and on-the-job training.
  • Complete all required Occupational Health and Safety inspections.
  • Complete personal performance agreements.
  • Information Officer (AS2) – Specific Tasks

  • Complete business operation tasks on foot at various campgrounds, or at a camp store, booth or Visitor Centre.
  • Utilize all functions of the shop.albertaparks.ca system to register campers or program participants, complete check‑in and check‑out, process campsites registration changes, and process payments or refunds.
  • Use ASPIRA software to operate cash register and point of sale machine for retail sales of products and services, which may include firewood, ice, concession items, ice cream, souvenirs, and rentals.
  • Ensure daily floats and cashouts are accurate and balanced.
  • Monitor building security, complete opening and closing tasks / procedures, perform maintenance inspections for safety and cleanliness of facilities; report any maintenance issues.
  • Assist with inventory management and control – restocking of merchandise, brochures, general tidying and informing supervisor of low stock.

    Qualifications

    Required

  • High School Diploma
  • Preference for experience with point of sales machines, retail, cash handling and / or customer service.
  • Equivalency

  • Directly related experience considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education.
  • Additional Requirements

  • Intermediate (Standard) First Aid and CPR Level C + AED.
  • Successful candidates must obtain a Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or equivalent) and a current 3‑year Driver’s Abstract (with no more than 6 demerits).
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) 2015 certificate.

  • Previous experience with Parks or the Tourism Industry.
  • Experience in retail operations including processing cash and POS payments including till balancing (cash in / out), inventory stocking.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of applications and other computer programs.
  • A love of parks and the outdoors, camping and / or nature.
  • Ability to speak other languages in addition to the English language.
  • Terms of Employment

  • Seasonal Wage Opportunities : Starting April / May and ending August / September / October 2026. Exact contract term dependent on location and operational needs.
  • All positions require evenings, weekends, and holiday work, as scheduled.

  • Shared rental staff housing may be available, dependent on Park Location. No pets are permitted in Park staff housing.
  • Any initial costs associated with obtaining required documents / checks as noted will be the responsibility of the candidate. However, some reimbursements may occur. Interview travel expenses will not be reimbursed. Out‑of‑province applicants can obtain the required documents / checks from the province they currently reside in.
  • About Your Work Environment

    Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park

    A unique landscape that contrasts the surrounding prairie, making it an exciting destination for campers and day users alike. It overlaps the Alberta and Saskatchewan borders. The park lies within the Southeast District of Alberta Parks. The district includes Red Rock Coulee and Michelle Reservoir. The park is located 65 km south of Medicine Hat and covers approximately 200 sq km of provincial park. The focal point is the Elkwater Townsite with 300 cottages, 10 campgrounds, 5 group camps and front & backcountry comfort camping. Information Officers work out of the Visitor Centre and the Elkwater Townsite providing information, retail services, campground registrations and reservation support. Onsite, fully furnished staff housing may be available for rent.

    Park Lake Provincial Park

    Located 15 minutes west of Lethbridge, Information Officers work closely with all teams in the Southwest Area to provide Visitor Services in parks including Police Outpost Provincial Park, St. Mary Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area and more. Information Officers welcome guests, provide information, offer visitor support for campground registrations and reservations, and may travel to other parks and campgrounds in the district to do the same. Onsite, fully furnished staff housing may be available upon request.

    Chain Lakes Provincial Park

    Located in the Diamond Valley area and west of Nanton. Alberta Parks is searching for a Lead Information Officer to base from Chain Lakes Provincial Park but also travel throughout the Southwest Area to welcome guests, provide information, offer visitor support for campground registrations and reservations to visitors. Onsite, fully furnished staff housing is available for rent.

    Police Outpost Provincial Park

    Located southwest of Cardston, in the Southwest Area. The Lead Information Officer works closely with the Park Lake Team to provide Visitor Services in the following parks : St. Mary Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area, Payne Lake Provincial Recreation Area, Woolford Provincial Park and more. Information Officers welcome guests, provide information, offer visitor support for campground registrations and reservations, and may travel to other parks and campgrounds in the district to do the same. Onsite, fully furnished staff housing may be available upon request.

    Lake Provincial Park (Beauvais)

    Located 20 km southwest of Pincher Creek. Alberta Parks is searching for Information Officers to operate out of Beauvais Provincial Parks. Staff based in this area also provide Visitor Services in Castle Provincial Park, Chinook Provincial Recreation Area, Lundbreck Falls Provincial Recreation Area, Oldman Dam Provincial Recreation Area and more. Information Officers travel throughout the Southwest to welcome guests, provide information, offer visitor support for campground registrations and reservations to visitors. Onsite, fully furnished staff housing may be available for rent.

    Writing‑on‑Stone / Áísínai’pi Provincial Park

    Located 42 km east of Milk River, AB and is an important cultural site to the Blackfoot people. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019 and welcomes visitors from all over the world to experience the unique badlands environment and its deep cultural connections. Information Officers work out of both the visitor centre and campground store providing information, retail services, campground registrations and reservation support to visitors. Onsite, fully furnished staff housing are available for rent.
