This is an open opportunity open to interested candidates and this recruitment will establish an Eligibility List for current Licensed Vocational Nurse vacancies as well as any future vacancies.
This list will be active for six (6) months with the possibility to be extended. This opportunity is open to all interested candidates.
BASIC FUNCTION :
- Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, provide a variety of health care services to students at assigned school site;
- administer first aid, screen ill or injured students and provide medications to students including oral, aerosol and injection medications;
provide emergency care in accordance with State laws and District regulations; accompany and provide specialized medical care to individual students as directed and assist in instruction to pupils.
The Licensed Vocational Nurse will be paid on the Paraeducator Salary Schedule.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
A combination of training, experience and / or education equivalent to an accredited vocational nursing program and California license as a Vocational Nurse.
Experience using suctioning and tube feeding equipment is required; experience in pediatrics or student health clinics is highly desirable.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS :
- Possession of a current and valid license issued by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians, including requirement for administration of prescribed medication.
- Possession of basic first aid certification issued by an authorized agency. (On-line certificates will not be accepted.)
- Possession of current infant, child and adult cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification issued by an authorized agency.

Possession of a valid California driver’s license and availability of private transportation (mileage expense allowance provided).

- Provide a variety of health care services to students at assigned school sites; monitor and assess student health, temperatures, pulses, respirations and other conditions.
- Assist in supporting instruction to pupils according to established individual education and / or 504 plans.
- Administer first aid, screen ill or injured students and provide emergency care in accordance with State laws and District regulations;
prepare and administer prescribed medications, including oral, aerosol and injection medications according to physician instructions and established District procedures as directed.
Prepare and maintain a variety of records, logs and reports related to student health, medication, accidents, daily medical activities and assigned duties;
establish and maintain filing systems.
- Operate a computer and assigned software; operate a variety of medical instruments and equipment including catheters, thermometers, stethoscopes, gastronomical tubes, oxygen machines, ventilators and suction equipment to provide specialized health care to students.
- Communicate with physicians on specifics of student care; notify parents, guardians, emergency personnel and other authorized persons when children need to be sent home or to the hospital.
- Lift and move designated students as necessary.
- Assist students in the use of bathroom facilities, including changing diapers and clothes, cleaning, and providing personal hygiene care.
- Update and maintain student health records and emergency cards; assist parents with completing various forms; review, maintain and file physical exam and immunization records.
- Communicate with District personnel, students and parents to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns related to student health, medications, accidents, emergencies, daily medical activities and assigned duties.
- Travel to multiple school sites to provide nursing services to students.
- Maintain health office in a clean, orderly and safe condition; maintain inventory and order first aid and health office supplies as necessary.
- Set up meals and assist individual students with eating as directed; record fluid and food intake and output as assigned.
- Attend staff meetings and assist with staff development during work hours as assigned.
- Ride a school bus to accompany students.
