Italian Centre Shop is currently recruiting for a Full-Time Cafe Supervisor to join our growing team at our Northland Village location : Northland Village Mall, Unit 501, 5111 Northland Drive NW, Calgary, Alberta .

SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the Department Manager, the Café Supervisor ensures that the café department is always performing in an effective and efficient manner, minding ICS’s policies and procedures for all actions and decisions. Café Supervisors will support and adhere to the mission and values of ICS.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and prepare a variety of Italian-style drinks, including espresso, cappuccino, and other specialty beverages.
  • Expertly craft and bake traditional Italian pizzas, ensuring high-quality ingredients and authentic flavors.
  • Train and supervise café staff in the art of beverage preparation and pizza making.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and update the café menu.
  • Oversee day-to-day café operations, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Monitor inventory levels, place orders for supplies, and manage stock rotation.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, as well as food safety regulations.
  • Coordinate departmental activities and operations.
  • Greet and assist customers in a manner that models exemplary conduct for other staff.
  • Lead by example to build departmental commitment to high standards of service.
  • Encourage a positive team atmosphere that enables the team to meet or exceed goals and achieve consistently high levels of customer service.
  • Ensure all customer complaints are addressed and handled professionally, leaving the customer with a positive resolution.
  • Train employees in company products and knowledge.
  • Conduct one-on-one or small group training presentations for product knowledge, store activities, and established policies and procedures.
  • Strive to minimize staff turnover and keep team headcount at acceptable levels.
  • Maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep the store operating to our standards and to set a positive example for your team.
  • Assist with new employee training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed.
  • Provide input to strategic and tactical planning processes.
  • Provide feedback to the store manager on employee performance.
  • Administer disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide and maintain a safe work environment, which includes safety training for staff when required.
  • Regularly communicate and collaborate with other departments and with other stores.
  • Respond and resolve employee issues, escalating them to the department and / or store manager as needed.
  • Implement department plans and budgets as assigned by the department manager.
  • Drive sales while honouring trends within the department.
  • Staff scheduling; maintaining budgeted labour hours.

  • Assists with department plans and budgets, including labour budgets, achieved through effective scheduling, measuring results, allocating resources, reviewing progress, and making mid-course corrections as required.
  • Assists in implementing the strategy for the department.
  • Assists with payroll for the department.
  • Team Building

  • Builds a strong, cohesive team where employees feel they contribute and are valued.
  • Grows their team and empowers employees to make decisions on their own.
  • Delegates responsibilities to their employees.
  • Identifies key performers and provides opportunities for growth, development, and advancement.
  • Staffing

  • Supervises the work of the café employees.
  • Ensures schedules are completed and posted for employees in a timely manner.
  • In conjunction with Human Resources, recruits and selects new café staff.
  • Holds monthly staff meetings to keep employees informed of operations and company news.
  • Employee Relations

  • Provides employees with regular feedback on their performance.
  • Follows up with staff on any breach of company policy and ensures proper progressive discipline forms are completed.
  • Training and Development

  • Provides standardized training for all new and existing employees, including health and safety.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Education

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited school system or program is preferred.
  • Experience

  • A minimum of one-year experience in a customer focused role is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role within a cafe or similar food service setting.
  • Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent listening skills and communication skills, both verbally and written.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a professional image at all times.
  • Can work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Have a well-balanced concern for both tasks and people.
  • Have a genuine concern for the needs of customers.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Required to work a variety of shifts including mornings, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Required at times to work with challenging customers and / or situations.
  • Exposed to hot and cold environments.
  • Exposed to sharp equipment.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Long periods of standing and walking.
  • Frequent motions include bending, twisting, squatting, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
  • Includes manual and repetitive tasks.
  • On occasion, you may be required to lift up to 22.5 kg (50 lbs).
