Reporting to the Managing Director, The Director of Finance and Accounting is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all financial operations, accounting functions, and financial reporting for Mercer Celgar. This position provides strategic financial guidance to senior leadership, ensures the integrity of financial data, manages the budgeting and forecasting process, and is responsible for establishing and maintaining robust internal controls and regulatory compliance
Responsibilities
- Lead the comprehensive budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes as defined by the corporate head office.
- Ensure that effective, efficient, and appropriate internal controls are designed and implemented within the finance function and across business processes that impact financial reporting.
- Oversee the documentation, testing, and remediation of internal controls over financial reporting.
- Provide proactive financial analysis and consultation to the Managing Director and senior colleagues to support sound business and investment decisions.
- Prepare and present regular and ad hoc reports that provide critical financial insights into mill performance
- Oversee all transactional accounting to ensure full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Mercer International’s corporate policies.
- Manage daily financial operations, including payments, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
- Maintain and manage Fixed Asset accounting.
- Provide clear leadership, mentorship, and development for the finance team.
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience with large-scale Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is essential.
- Direct experience with SAP (S / 4HANA preferred) is highly desirable, including participation in or leadership of an ERP implementation or migration project.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related fieldCPA, CFA or equivalent designation is highly desired10 + years experience in accounting, finance, auditing, budgeting, or financial analysisA minimum 5+ years in a senior management or leadership role (like Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Financial Manager)Deep technical accounting knowledge (GAAP / IFRS), Financial Modeling, Data Analysis, proficiency with ERP systems and accounting software, and advanced spreadsheet functionalityStrong competency in financial modeling and using standard business and financial softwareStrong strategic thinking to align financial goals with overall business strategy, risk analysis, and commercial acumenSalary and Benefits
The salary for this position is $159,000- $239,000.00.
