Job Description

AECOM is hiring a Requirements Manager to join our Systems Engineering and Systems Assurance group. This newly created position focuses on Requirements Engineering, Verification & Validation, Integration, and Interface Management for major rail and transit programs across Canada. The role can be based in Mississauga, Markham, Calgary or Edmonton.

The Requirements Manager will provide senior‑level leadership in requirements development, traceability, compliance verification, and configuration control. The responsibilities involve establishing, governing, and maintaining the requirements baseline from initial capture through final acceptance, ensuring project requirements are clear, traceable, verifiable, and controlled throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate requirements engineering activities across complex programs.
  • Analyze ambiguous or evolving technical challenges, ensuring clear requirements capture.
  • Supervise engineers and analysts in requirements capture, decomposition, allocation, and verification.
  • Act as the primary liaison among project teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Operate with minimal supervision while exercising expert judgment in requirements methodologies and tooling.
  • Develop and maintain the Requirements Management Plan (RMP) .
  • Capture, decompose, and structure requirements from stakeholder needs, standards, and design inputs.
  • Configure and administer requirements management tools, especially IBM DOORS NG .
  • Establish and maintain bi‑directional traceability between system, subsystem, and component requirements.
  • Conduct quality reviews to identify gaps, conflicts, ambiguities, and inconsistencies.
  • Manage change control, impact assessments, and baseline updates.
  • Develop and maintain Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTMs) and compliance matrices.
  • Coordinate requirement reviews with designers, suppliers, client representatives, and assurance teams.
  • Ensure requirement allocation and ownership are clearly defined.
  • Prepare dashboards, reports, and metrics for stakeholders.
  • Support verification and validation activities related to requirement closure and acceptance.
  • Provide mentorship and training to supporting staff.
  • Contribute to proposals and bids, including scope definition, estimates, and tool strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Requirements Management or Systems Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of hands‑on experience with requirements management tools.
  • Minimum 5 years of delivering requirements activities across the full project lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated expertise in requirements decomposition, traceability, and change control.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in Requirements Management or Systems Engineering.
  • Experience applying industry frameworks and standards such as ISO 29148, ISO 15288 / ISO 24748, IEEE 1220, and INCOSE ASEP or CSEP certification.
  • Familiarity with EN50126 and FTA SCC requirements frameworks.
  • Project management certification or training (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).

  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.
  • Compensation

    The offered rate will be based on education, qualifications, experience, and work location, ranging from CAD 170,000 to CAD 220,000 annually.
